Strange occurence at 3 am....
OK, a bit more *on topic* than of late:
Two things happen with my bedroom setup smack on 3 am: The standby light on
my little digital telly starts flashing to denote that it is downloading the
EPG and at exactly the same moment my FM tuner/hifi amp goes very quiet (but
not completely silent). It goes back up to normal when the light stops
flashing on the telly. Both the tuner and the telly are connected to the
same (Denon SS) amp at 'line level' otherwise there is no communication
between the two bits of kit.
Anybody got a clue what is going on?

Indeed, very odd! Does the tuner mute if the TV is unplugged? If not, I
wonder if the tuner has some sort of mute activation thing going on?

OK, I unplugged the telly and the sound from the tuner did not diminish
as the 'EPG time' came and went. I plugged the telly back in well after
the normal 'EPG time' and the sound level went down for a couple of
seconds and then recovered. No EPG/Stand By light flashing.
More stumped now than I was before!!
:-)
Well, my guess FWIW is that the auto-mute, that thing the FM tuner does
to cut out the hash when tuning between stations, is activated for a
second or two when the EPG download kicks in.
Can you switch the automute on the tuner off? And then wait until 3am
and see if it does it again :-)

Not enough information. Ideally we would need to know if the inputs on the
amp were all reduced.
The input devices connected to the amp are my 'movies PC', my Technics FM
tuner and my Samsung Blu-ray player. The sound level is reduced on both the
tuner and BDP when I switch the telly on; I have not had a chance to check
what happens when the PC is playing.
Were you accidentally listening to the radio via
freeview?
No - Classic FM on an FM tuner.

If you short out one input while connected to another does the short
affect the other input, maybe something is a bit duff on the diode
switching in the amp.
Brian, thanks for your suggestions but as the problem only manifests itself
at 3 am and then only for a few minutes, I'm not going to pull it all apart
to experiment with it. I've got to the stage with the various systems that
they have all become a mystery to me (to many possible connection
combinations) and I wouldn't know how to recreate them!!
