I am talking about anything, anywhere.

However, the point of the "chap who advised looking at the DVD" is that
they should ALL sound the same. No audible difference whatsoever.

A DVD player will suit most people.

Now who's being snobby?

There's no snobbery there. You have to remember that huge numbers of
people have crappy integrated hifis bought out of the likes of Argos and
Dixons. A DVD player with an amp would likely be a step up.
