I have pair of these speakers (ATC SCM40):

Is painting the tweeter plate quite easy? The dome seems to be fixed to
the plate in some way, and I can't see how to get a neat finish (as in
this pair - the photo shows it well).

How is the bass unit fixed to the baffle? I'd guess 'from behind', but
if so, how does the baffle come off?

Well, I could suggest a darker soundstage but I won't. Just looks. The
silver looks tacky.

Oh, I learned a long time ago, that original condition means a higher resale
value than I painted it matt black as silver was tacky.

Can it be totally removed so no spray dust can get into the drive unit?
What is it made of?

Yes, agreed, painting them probably would affect the value. The ebay
speakers I linked to start at more than list price - and that's
modified. Best of luck with that!

I don't think the dome can be removed, and the faceplates look to be
aluminium. Please excuse my insensitivity, pics here, showing the
painted and originals:

The pictures show a pretty much perfect coat of paint right up to the
fabric looking dome. Also, what look to be security torx bolts on mine. Joy.

Bit difficult to see the tweeter in that pic. On many, the unit itself is
bolted to the faceplate to allow different shapes to be used - but
obviously not in this case.

Have you Googled to see if this tweeter has a replaceable voice coil? You
might find instructions for stripping it down if it has.
