Yup, some people have cloth ears ...!
Or maybe some people don't take it seriously enough?
Or they haven't got a clue what they are listening for?
Or lots of other reasons....!

You do realise the bandwidth of TOSlink is FAR *FAR* below the
capability of the fibre it uses? heck, you could probably get it to work
with no fibre at all if you put the devices back-to-back. Are you going
to suggest that air has *remotely* similar optical properties to 3
metres of glass?

Whatever happened to free speech - instead you get put down for
voicing an opinion, by people who don't even know you?

you didnt get put down for speaking, you got put down for being a dork
;-)

What are the differences in terms of construction between a posh cable and
a
cheap one? Even the cheapest fibre optics are *amazingly* pure glass, it'd
be
hard to imagine how anyone can improve on it.

Btw, I'm pretty sure if you can tell the difference under controlled
conditions
there's a large cash prize up for grabs. If you are sure you can hear the
difference might be worth a try.

Odd that you are missing the most obvious suggestion - they all really
do sound the same...........................

And wasn't the one dissenting opinion from someone who, having wasted
money on a super-cable, badly NEEDS it to be better? :=_

How do you know this to be the case?

He's already specified what he uses.

Or don't you allow people to make their own choice, just because you
disagree with it?

He can buy what he likes, but he needn't bother claiming that it
*sounds* better - or indeed different.

Or maybe other people, who do know, cannot be bothered to enter a newsgroup
like this coz they know they are going to be slagged off by people who
prefer Maplins/Argos/AN Other store to make a money out of them.

Whatever happened to free speech - instead you get put down for voicing an

Typical if you ask me, but you didn't so I won't go on..!

You demonstrably *have* free speech - shame that you don't like other
people to have it as well.......................

I'll give you a tenner if you can demonstrate *any* audible (or even
detectable within reasonable limits) difference between them.

Where do you live? (area only will do!)

Thomas
(Already regretting asking the above question, but hey ho!!, in for a penny
in for a pound !)

I'll give you a grand - this is on record. I'm on the Notts/Leicester

No, they're not, almost all Toslink cables are plastic. It's usually
only the high-speed AT&T links that use quartz monomode fibres.

That's really for conventional cables, but I'd be happy to extend it
to Toslinks, especially with all the ******** about 'cleaner highs'
that's been spouted!
