Sure, but the music is good, and if you're not too bunched up about
distortion, surely you don't mind if there isn't any?
Not sure - there's plenty who claim the right amount and type of distortion
is what makes the sound 'special'. - 'a little salt in the stew' and 'a
chord beats a single note' etc.....

**Dream on. There are 1.3 Billion Chinese who desire a better standard
of
living. That will take quite a few years. India is likely to be the next
low
cost manufacturing nation.
I don't know why India isn't a manufacturing nation.
Yamaha Motorcycles sited a factory there....
They are a services
nation, since lots of IT and call centre work gets outsourced there!
Could be due to them being able to read/write English, unlike the Chinese.
Yes and the fact they all have 'degrees'.....

I do.
Full Class A operation of any amplifier
(save SE products, of course) is simply not necessary. I will say this,
however: Opertaing a crappily designed amplifier into Class A, will
likely
make it sound better than it otherwise would. Operating a properly
designed
amplifier into Class A, will not make it any better.
Sez who?
**Logic, common sense and every COMPETENT amplifier designer on the planet.
Both my valve are *fully* Class A and'experts' have assured me it

Difference....!!!
**What is the load impedance? Does it vary? Your unamed "experts" are
entitled to their opinions. Their opinions will be givne the weighting
they
deserve (ie: none).
A thousand references on the Net, a million references in hifi comix and
two
people running their own 'Audio' companies that I have personally
conversed
with beats your opinions (sorry), in my book....
**I'll ask again:
What is the load impedance?
Does it vary?

Sorry Keith. If you shunt your prejudices and imagination to one side,
and run double-blind level-matched comparisons - they quite simply do.
Used below clipping, A Krell 700 sounds just like an ARC Reference
600, sounds just like an Arcam A85. The ones that sound *different*
(i.e. most SETs and other crappy valve amps), are basically broken.
As you might say - just *trust* your ears..................
That's just what I *don't* do - I'm too involved. I ask others who have
(or
claim to have) Golden Ears....
What I detect for myself is abstract (ie difficult to measure) stuff like
'emotion' and engagement. Believe me, if I could get better from ss gear,
I'd bloody use ss gear!
I am fully aware of the areas where ss gear wins over valves and, like I
said just now, the only two amps I've run today (one on the computer) were
two little ****e Technics cheapies that I absolutely love - I just don't
use
them when I want the 'Full Monty'
OK, I don't think you've got Broadband, so this track (at 7 meg):
http://www.apah69.dsl.pipex.com/keit...20Tomorrow.mp3
isn't going to help you, but I've posted it as a good example (taken
almost
at random - I was listening to the album earlier today) as a very good
example of the type of stuff I like and which sounds 1000% better (space,
depth, imaging, texture, timbre) when played through valves.
(*Trust me* on this....!!! ;-)

Trevor has answered that in another post. I know of the meaning, but am
not sure how they ever got connected to a septic tank ...
It would be 'rhyming slang', me old china!
(China plate = mate, geddit? :-)
I was under the assumption that the UK was no longer a welfare state
(started by Maggie and followed on by Blair with cuts to single mother
handouts).
Plenty of money about for those who know how to work the system. There was
(apparently) a bit of a stink recently when it was revealed that some fat
slag with 8 kids was/is copping about £36K pa in benefits!
There are definitely nomads who milk the system, I thought that Canada
would have been a better country to milk!
Yes, 20 years ago they were passing through the UK on their way to that
promised land!
My own PERSONAL EXPERIENCE of this was to watch my wife's schoolfriend and
her husband (both of whose parents lived in U***** who moved to the UK when
they were kicked out) get jumped to the top of the housing queue ( as did
their parents), then see them buy the house at a massively-subsidised price
from the local Development Corporation only to flog it at a massive profit
and **** off to Canada, since when my wife has NEVER HEARD A SINGLE WORD
from them!!
(Schoolfriend? - She got 'volunteered' to look after her when she first
turned up and duely did so for a good number of years!)
Oh aye - make Britain 'unbritish' and the world damn soon loses
interest -
first consequence of 'multiculturalism'...
nah, there will always be Anglophiles from former colonies who don't
want that to happen!
It already has.
What happened to "Cool Brittania" from the 90s anyway?
A new media marketting campaign displaced it but I don't remember what....
Which reminds me of a sketch from "Goodness Gracious Me". There are 2
Indian families (one of them is the Kapurs, anglicised to the Coopers)
who are trying to "out-Anglo" each other. So they are having dinner at
one of their homes, and a brick gets thrown through the window with the
message "Pakis go home". So one of the males picks up the brick, reads
the message and says ... "Quite rightly so" ...
OH aye, the 'ethnics' know a damn sight more about racism than most - all
the way down to tribe/village level....
Now, just to set the record straight (presuming you to be from 'Oriental
stock)
yes I am
OK, if by that you mean Chinese then I would just say that if all migrants
integrated like the Chinese do, there would be no problems anywhere.
Unfortunately, some Chinese are being used as Cheap Labour in the UK these
days.....
Anecdote - I was in a Chinese restaurant a good few years ago and could tell
the youg girl waitress was not dim - I asked her 'what do you do...???' She
said she had just finished university training as an engineer and would be
returning to China soon to become a Hydroelectric Engineer. I said 'what,
designing and building hydroelectric dams?', she said 'Yes'..... :-)
oh yes, differences are what make the world go round, but we shouldn't
get to the point where we can't criticise another culture (e.g. genital
mutiliation, the treatment of females as 2nd class citizens, etc) just
because it might come off as racist!
Exactly!

That's a possibility with either tubed or SS amps. It's far less likely with
tubes, but its not mission impossible.
