There is a lot of discussion here about equipment, amplifier distortion ,
valves v solid state, the sound of cables and capacitors etc..........and
a lot of good tech advice and opinion .BUT what about the music ?
I thought I would ask as question that might elicit some interesting
opinions that might tell us a little more about group members.
Brace yourself its a music question.....so who knows, it might puzzle a
few contributors

Who is/was the most influential female recording artist of the late 20th
century?

Sits back and braces himself !!! Of course there is no RIGHT answer but
opinions may be interesting.

Sorry to throw a spanner in the proverbial works immediately,
but it cannot be that simple. We would probably have to break
it down into categories:

If we are talking about jazz vocalists, then surely the golden gong
must go to Billie Holliday.

Definitely Billie Holliday. her work and performances
are studied by the members of every jazz and popular music
conservatory.

Or should we vote for Dido :-))

We must be very careful here.
Once when I mentioned Duke Ellington,
I was told he was "off topic" :-)

I'm just not sure about Billie. I really like her, and I can certainly
hear her legacy all over jazz, but the world is a lot bigger than
that. In terms of the late twentieth, I think the person (who I don't
really like) with the biggest influence in music is Madonna.

Just as I predicted.....................so far the replies have been
interesting .

d needs 50 years to form an opinion ?

Billie Holiday cant really be seen as a " late" 20th century
performer.......as she was dead by then

and predictably someone thinks music is off topic for an audio
group..........

okok........I started this ........my votes for Joni
Mitchell.....................

C'mon - you started this - it's no good just giving a name. Tell us
about the influence.
