Eh? the 20th century lasted from 1901 to 2000 according to the Gregorian

In answer to the question Billie Holiday as far as I'm concerned

I'm saying that it is far too early too gauge influence from singers
as recent as the late 20th century.

Who has Billie Holiday influenced, by the way? The question isn't
about who was great.

Elizabeth Frazer, for one.

That's good - we need many more than one, though - even one as good as
Liz.

There is a lot of discussion here about equipment, amplifier
distortion , valves v solid state, the sound of cables and capacitors
etc..........and a lot of good tech advice and opinion .BUT what
about the music ?

Try a newsgroup with the word *music* in its name.

There are literally 100's of them.

Is it just me ...... but I never said the 20th century...............I
asked............."Who is/was the most influential female recording artist
of the late 20th Century "

With all respect to Billie Holiday she WAS dead in the late 20th
century.............. and as far as I know Duke Ellington was a fella.
I did say Joni Mitchell..................and I don't have to explain it
.....in my opinion she was.

So far we have
Joni Mitchell and Liz Frazer...................... not forgetting Madonna
of course ( but that's so easy to do )

the late 20th century must be worth a few more or do the group just listen
to hi-fi .....not music

Barry

Not trying to be nasty by asking - just interested.

My listening is largely instrumental - some vocal but a lot of that is
very contemporary by artists who have had no time to be an influence
yet. I do like the jazz greats, and Billie and Ella (another candidate
from the wrong bit of the century) are certainly up there.

I don't listen to Hi Fi, and I have chosen all the components in my
system to ensure that this remains as much as possible the case.

For people of my music tastes then Sandy Denny has her own special
place.

It's off topic for an audio group. There are a 'million' music groups out
there to discuss such things in.

No, *music* discussion is off topic for an audio newgroup.

Definitely Billie Holliday. her work and performances
are studied by the members of every jazz and popular music
conservatory.

Agreed.

Or should we vote for Dido :-))

I vote for her as the definitive cure for insomnia..........

What a brilliant idea!
We could start a new label for Dido, called Insomniacs,
with a red triangle as a logo. Smith Kleine and Beecham
could sponsor the recordings, and GP's could give them
out on prescription instead of Tenox.
