IIRC I did find the same on one occasion. However I mostly use
DVD+R's, so once the disc is corrupted it tends to become unreadable.
Although I do have one which works provided you skip a given chapter.

**I use a brand called 'Maxmax'. They cost AUS$28.00 / spindle of 50
(8X). I've burned around 300 disks on my LG computer burner and my
Panasonic DVD recorder. I can print directly to them from my Canon ink
jet, for a very professional result. I've tried a lot of different
disks and, IMO, Maxmax is the best so far. No beer coasters.

I fear that in my case the problem isn't the discs as such, but the DVDR70
video recorder. This aims pointed parts of its anatomy vertical every now
and then and gives what Paul described as the "Red Circle of Death".

The red circle is the 'recording/activity indicator' on the recorder which
also lights up when the device becomes confused and does something wildly
wrong. It then tends to require a 'hard reset' (disconnect from mains) to
clear the problem and make the recorder work correctly. Alas, when it
occurs during a recording process it tends to spoil the disc.

FWIW I found this occurs about as often with the 'Bulkpaq' discs as the TDK
ones, but occurs less often after I updated the firmware. The TDK discs I
use are just under 9 UKP for a spindle of 25.

In terms of quality and features when working I regard the DVDR70 as
excellent. However I fear that Philips might need to employ some more, or
better, software engineers... :-/ Although to be fair, when it comes to
DVD video recorders we are essentially talking about 'new' products so I
suppose that have a lot to learn as yet.

Slainte,

Jim

Working in a studio, one bumps into many people over the years.
They all have to start somewhere. My pal Harry Fisher claims he
was recording Manfred Mann when he was only Boyfred Boy.

I was once invited together with Decca producer Kevin Daly to
"take tea" with Arthur Askey at his house in Holland Park.
He lived with his sister who was also diminutive.
Kevin was 6ft3. The table was about 40cms off the ground.
Despite sitting with our knees around our ears,
the fruit cake was the best I have ever tasted, and
we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves in charming and
amusing company.

I was involved in recording Charlie Chester. At one point he asked me
to pick up a script for him - it had fallen on the floor. I thought
"Huh! What a prima Donna", but I picked up the script anyway. It was
only later I found out he had broken three ribs that morning in a car
crash, and had come to the studio straight from hospital.

Not sure they make them like that any more.

No - most occasionally stand their round. ;-)

well, they cost £80 here, before haggling

So what's the problem? Gives great pictures, too.

And what sort of tyres do German cars need that cost more than £109? Top of the
line Pirelli Neros?

235/40x17 Continental Sport Contact II, on my Audi A6 3.0 Sport
Quattro. The 225/35x18 Michelin Pilots on my wife's TT are even more
expensive! :-(

OK, you are right ... I can\'t get a new tyre for the price of the Pioneer DVD
player here. I just checked out the prices for a tyre of type 205/R16 55, and
they cost more than £80 ...
