Now I must admit that my history skills are very poor, so could someone

Corsican. Originally the island of Corsica belonged to Genoa IIRC, before
being given to France for some deal or other. They still speak Italian on
island I believe.



Very good and almost correct. Corsica is bilingual - French (the official
language) and a Tuscan dialect of Italian.
