Ian, Ian, Ian, things are always easy when you ignore the obvious.
Ian, I really hate to point it out, but here's a fact that should be
part of a foundation for any argumentative starting point but: Britain
has no space program. Nothing.

Why would we want one?

Sad commentary by the descendant of a once proud race of explorers, now a
near third world country relegated to "America's Poodle".

Interesting idea... Of course the USA actually carries all the
stigmata of a third world country. It has the rich elite and it has
the huge population living in abject poverty in shanty towns - I've
seen them, unfortunately.

As for GB being a near-third world country, as tiny as we are we have
the world's fourth biggest economy, so no, I really don't think so.

Of course you are right in a way about the poodle thing. Tony B. Liar
is GWB's poodle, but that certainly doesn't go for the rest of us.

Poor Peter. So envious of the Brits.

You gotta pity them really. They dont have a history of their own...

Oh yes they do, albeit a short one - like most other nations on this
plannit, it's mostly chicken**** hassling just to put a few bob into a very
few people's pockets at the end of the day. The truth is they ain't ever
done a single thing that wasn't 'important to their economy' - anyone who
thinks the D-Day Landings were anything different should Google "Torpedo
Junction" ( http://www.nps.gov/caha/torpedo.htm is a good one) and join up
the dots......

See, for instance:

Para 1: "The pivotal naval campaign that followed, one marked by conspicuous
instances of ignorance, frustration, and heroism, came perilously close to
knocking the United States out of World War II."

Para 4: "Despite warnings from their concerned subordinates as well as their
adamant British allies (who had broken the German naval code), the American
naval command seemed oblivious to the potential for impending disaster."

Para 6: "The British, who were quite aware of the dire situation at hand,
offered both recommendations and ships - and were rebuffed on both counts.
Unchallenged, the Germans intensified their assault, and the number of
sinkings continued to mount."

(Other examples of US military fiascos are far too many to to list.....)

If were a Yank I wouldn't worry too much about a bunch of Hollywood-boosted
BS history, what I *would* be worrying about is the future.......

Now, having said that, my last words on this ludicrous topic (notice
crossposting removed) are that I never actually met a Yank I didn't like and
I've met a few! (They're mostly like big kids! :-)

No, you prefered to go much further afield to be butt ****ed.

Is that a bit of temper flaring? ;-)

Now tell us why the U.K. didn't just bomb the hell out of Argentina
in 1982.

Because our PM didn't have the balls for it!

Thatcher? She most certainly did have balls.

Yes, she'd certainly had mine by the time she was done......

But not forgetting the fact that he's a poodle to the ****wit the
merkins voted into office.

I suppose a pliable poodle is a better option than a psycho.

I'm always uneasy when the person in charge of the button can't even
pronounce what the button connects to properly.

Sorry Kurt, could you explain? - That was a little unclear......

Didn't quite take this bit in myself - how did that happen when the Yanks
captured the first Enigma machine.....????

Ya gotta fekkin' larf...... :-)

Too many images here for my brain to cope with. What with merkins and
pliable poodles I'm too overcome to work out what the button connects
to properly.

I see you are free French. I presume you are talking about that Vichy
