Well, given that the best CDs (as a group) that I've heard are all
made from analogue tape masters, I guess that would be a 'no'.
?? Odd control group there. Most recent CDs will have been digitally
sourced. I'd be surprised to hear about anybody mastering to analogue
these days, though I'm sure it probably happens now and then ...
I wish I could remember that bit in one of the pro audio mags we have
sent to us from time to time, on someone who still records to reel to
reel where he mentions something to the effect of,
" It sounds fine coming off the desk and still sounds quite musical once
its been through the analogue recorder, but something unpleasant happens
to it when its been through the DAT recorder".....
Unfortunately, *way* too many of these 'pro audio' guys have spent
*way* too long immersed in 120dB soundfields................. :-)
OTOH, the soft clipping inherent to tape saturation does mean that
sloppily set mic levels will not sound too bad when grossly
overloaded! You can't get away with that in digital.........

Design a better analogue system
Nobody is saying that there is, but the question asked was if there
was a better *analogue* system than LP. There is, it's called 1/2
track open-reel tape.
'cept for printthrough and flutter, and of course degradation with playback.

Demos used to be on cassette, and then changed to DAT. On cassette it was
usual - and possibly understandable - that the mod was laid on with a
trowel. But exactly the same happened with DAT. Broadcast line up on
digital recorders allows approximately 10 dB of headroom above the peak
that is transmitted. And they used all of this and more.

FM's still better than DAB or DTV for that matter..
For all uptight audiophile FM listeners everywhere...
http://www.britcom.org.uk/ukra/radio_listening.mp3 (1.3Mb)
That doesn't go anywhere..
Tell that to the 20+ people who've alredy d/l it.
Listen up you 20 plus lot. Doesn't seem to go anywhere and wont connect.
The reason is I suspect is that out BB feed comes by ntl!, mind you some
other sites seem very slow today so.
Still BT isn't available round here for some time to come....
I suppose you could have been trying when the FTP server on the same box
was being saturated so it timed out.
What's it about anyway?..
It's a **** take on introducing a binaural stereo radio performance. It
was from a 1981 radio show called 'Cliche' (although I've mistakenly put
1983 on the MP3 as I mixed up the date with 'Son of Cliche')
Yes I heard it on the other site. Very good!...
