Many people don't have Hi-Fi or give a toss about Hi-Fi, or have
satellite TV, or even watch any more than the basic FTV channels on
telly, so DAB is definitely the best route for them if they are in
coverage. Easy tuning, good sound, convenient operation, channel
choice. I wouldn't buy an FM receiver now as I have DAB and
Freeview, and yes, I agree, DAB quality is not up to that of
freeview, but it is as good as average FM quality and it serves its
purpose, especially as a portable reception medium (which
satellite, freeview etc are not.)
Yup. My sister in law has one in her kitchen and is delighted with
it. 'Perfect' reception compared to her old FM radio, she says. Got
quite shirty when I told her some thought it crap.
Same with the Lighting Director I'm currently working with. So at
least vaguely technical. Made him up a lead so he could feed it
through his Hi-Fi too, and he's a happy bunny.
My DAB is a cheapy acoustic solutions one, sounds fine using the DAC
in my amp

Who gives a ****? Go to Currys and listen to a few sets of cheapo PC
speakers, buy what you like, and stop making a dick of yourself.
Do yourself and read a book. Here's some suggestions:

You actually went to Amazon and searched on 'wally', just so you could post
some inane pish in a newsgroup?? You're still making a dick of yourself.

Humour really isn't a strong suit of yours, is it?
How would you know? You're completely devoid of it.
********, I've got a very good sense of humour, actually, Wally.
You just try your damndest to keep it hidden, right?

They're built down to a price. Same as DAB.
I reckon if I spend £25 - £30 on powered speakers (and those speakers
are good value for money -- hence the point of this thread) and play
back high bit rate MP3 files, it'll simply blow DAB away.
Er, no, because those will still be really ****ty speakers.
Er, yes. Radio 3 aside, the weakest link in the chain is the DAB
transmission, and you *will* be able to get speakers for £25 - £30 that
make high bit rate MP3s sound far better than DAB.
Now, if
you were to combine say a Cambridge audio A1 amp with a pair of
Mordaunt-Short 902s, that will give you genuine hi-fi quality for less
than £200 from Richer Sounds.
This is to replace a DAB portable radio *in the kitchen*, which is in a
small flat. We don't all live in mansions, and we don't all have money
to throw around frivolously.
I'm talking about beating the audio quality of a Pure Evoke-1. How fking
hard is that? You could probably beat that with a ****ty pair of £10 PC
speakers.
Read the FAQ. Commonsense and a sense of proportion are treated in the same
way as HTML and binaries.

Apologies, I won't let it happen again.
