Oh noooooooooooo, Dave's sister likes it so we're all wrong.

Sister in law. Just an example of the 'man on the Clapham omnibus'
Although she'd be a long way from home.
And please don't try and speak for everyone.

Same with the Lighting Director I'm currently working with. So at
least vaguely technical. Made him up a lead so he could feed it
through his Hi-Fi too, and he's a happy bunny.

I take it he bought it after December 2001? If so, then he won't have
heard what DAB could sound like.....

Not everyone has your 'golden ears'. Allegedly.

FWIW, for the radio I listen to, I'd rather have DAB and some decent
speakers than the best FM with PC ones. All the PC sets I've heard are
heavily coloured. Which is what you'd expect, given the price.

Oh blimey. You'll be getting Riggers to do reviews for Hi Fi News yet.

What the difference between a pig and a rigger?

Humour really isn't a strong suit of yours, is it?
How would you know? You're completely devoid of it.
********, I've got a very good sense of humour, actually, Wally.

You just try your damndest to keep it hidden, right?

I don't make any attempt at humour when communicating with people I do
not like.

We've yet to see you make any attempt at humour at all.

If that's alright with you?

Why should you care if I give a toss?

I doubt they'd be any worse.

Go on then.

Mind, I have fond memories of the bacon sarnies made by the riggers in the
good ol' days.

Even though you don't like this fact, there are a hell of a lot of
people that are against the use of low audio quality on DAB.

Same with the Lighting Director I'm currently working with. So at

I don't even think I have golden ears. It's hardly difficult to spot the
obvious degradation in audio quality on the 128kbps DAB stereo stations.

FWIW, for the radio I listen to, I'd rather have DAB and some decent
speakers than the best FM with PC ones.

Bear in mind this is for the kitchen. It's intended to replace a DAB
portable radio, and as I've already said, despite the fact that people
seem to rave about the sound of the Evoke-1, I actually think it sounds
bloody poor, and I don't think it'll be at all difficult to find some
reasonably-priced powered PC speakers that will outperform the poor
audio quality on the Evoke-1 considering that the MP3 files I'll be
playing will be high bit rate.

All the PC sets I've heard are
heavily coloured. Which is what you'd expect, given the price.

What price are you talking about, though? El cheapo PC speakers sound
crap, but they're less than a bloody tenner. If I buy some for, say,
£25 - £40, I'd expect them to sound a hell of a lot better than the ones
that cost less than a tenner, hence the reason I started this sodding
thread: to ascertain which PC speakers don't sound too bad.

Anyway Mr Plowman, you can rest assured that I'll report back after my
purchase.

Crikey. Your life's work appears to be complaining about the quality of
DAB, but you are perfectly happy to have crap like this?

I have a Rio Karma hooked up to Aego 2 speakers, and the quality is
excellent. Generally not the case though, I agree.

If the OP is interested, these are the speakers:

http://www.superfi.co.uk/index.cfm/p.../source/kelkoo

http://www.avreview.co.uk/news/artic...SP=&v=3&UAN=90

if you try, you can get them at about a tenner cheaper.

Thanks, but £89-£99 is too expensive for me at the moment. My car's
even off the road at the moment to save on tax and insurance!

Steve
