I've lost track of the language between Phil Allison and Patrick Turner - I haven't read their posts for months! Then there were the great days of Andre Jute! We could haul out a few gems. The group has really gone dull recently - I think a few migrated to DIY audio, and the rest are in the Asylum where I hang out. Ah yes, it must be nice to 'hang out' in a protected mutual back-slapping environment, where the nasty bad DBT guys aren't allowed to spoil the fantasy..................... Yes of course there were/are factions. (Andre is back by the way, having been paid a seven figure settlement by the Magnaquest Mob!!) He is probably counting in Italian Lira:-) But the level of expertise seems to be higher on RAT, and less character bashing. Maybe that's because owning and operating a valve system is a more "hands on" experience. Personally, I'd advise 'hands off', especially with power on! I know of several clever, well informed audio people who watch this group, but do not take part for fear of the flaming they might receive. That's a great pity because it deprives us all of their knowledge. What can be done? Stop the valvies flaming people who are interested in *real* high fidelity music reproduction? :-) That's rich coming from you :-) -- Stewart Pinkerton | Music is Art - Audio is Engineering |

Just exactly what kind of 'recording professional' are you? -- 10 years with Decca, and fifteen with RCA, plus wide experience of TV and film digital post production. And you? Cordially Iain Multiple personalities Iain, depends which one manifests itself at the time: a) Submariner b) Weapons expert c) Spitfire pilot d) Expert on valve design e) Expert on Sci Fi films (Hint anorak trap) f) Clarksons alter ego h) Recording expert i) Acoustics expert :-) You missed 'expert swordsman', 'military historian', 'martial arts expert' and 'toy plane maker'....... |

Thanks. |

Curious but true - Arny's just the same. I wonder Arny hated his mum as well? It's not that simple Mike. I think you'll find that these ****s desperately *wanted* their mums to love them and all the twisted bitterness stems from the feelings of rejection..... That statement of Pinky's has kinda messed me up - no fun (point) kicking someone's arse if they *can't help* being the way they are. Swim said the first thing they told her on her Psychology course at Dundee University (when they went on visits to the loony bin - part of the course, apparently) was 'don't try *reasoning* with the loonies'..... All very sad... |

"Stewart Pinkerton" wrote in message ... Indeed not, but r.a.t is largely a mutual congratulation society of the terminally bewildered, so one would reasonably expect a higher standard of politeness. Afdter all, there's no real venom in debating the relative merits of pentodes and triodes, now is there? :-) What a curious view you seem you have of the world, Stewart:-) Why does debate have to be venomous? Because the vinylites and tubies have axes to grind. After all both of their hobby-horse prize technolgies are thoroughly marginalized. My point was that there should be enough expertise on an NG for people to help, ask questions and give advice, without risking flak from your ubiquitous Spitfi-)) Stewart being one guy, can't possibly duplicate the inbound flak he receives. No one, but no one, knows everything there is to know about the subject, and that's why intelligent discussion, as opposed to flaming, is so important. On a good day, but we've got all these tubies and vinylites with wounded egos to deal with. Those few top-class valve amp which *do* sound just like the input signal, seem like an incredible waste of money! Sales of valve amps are increasing healthily, as more people get to hear what they have been missing. Case in point. In fact valve amp sales are in the commode, and have been there for about 40 years. The swill in the commode might bubble and froth from time to time, and tubie sales might jerk up from time to time, but at the end of the day all the commode needs is a good flushing. |
