Yes of course there were/are factions. (Andre is back by the way, having

But the level of expertise seems to be higher on RAT, and less character
bashing. Maybe that's because owning and operating a valve system is
a more "hands on" experience.

Personally, I'd advise 'hands off', especially with power on!

I know of several clever, well informed audio people who watch
this group, but do not take part for fear of the flaming they might
receive.
That's a great pity because it deprives us all of their knowledge.

What can be done?

Stop the valvies flaming people who are interested in *real* high
fidelity music reproduction? :-)

It's not that simple Mike. I think you'll find that these ****s desperately
*wanted* their mums to love them and all the twisted bitterness stems from
the feelings of rejection.....

That statement of Pinky's has kinda messed me up - no fun (point) kicking
someone's arse if they *can't help* being the way they are. Swim said the
first thing they told her on her Psychology course at Dundee University
(when they went on visits to the loony bin - part of the course, apparently)
was 'don't try *reasoning* with the loonies'.....

The welcome arrival of someone with genuine experience of recording has
already gone a long way to stem the flow of bull**** from a couple of the
worst offenders in this group.

Because the vinylites and tubies have axes to grind. After all both of their
hobby-horse prize technolgies are thoroughly marginalized.

My point was that there should be enough expertise on an NG
for people to help, ask questions and give advice, without risking
flak from your ubiquitous Spitfi-))

Stewart being one guy, can't possibly duplicate the inbound flak he
receives.

No one, but no one, knows everything there is to know about
the subject, and that's why intelligent discussion, as opposed to
flaming, is so important.

On a good day, but we've got all these tubies and vinylites with wounded
egos to deal with.

Those few top-class valve amp which *do* sound just
like the input signal, seem like an incredible waste of money!

Sales of valve amps are increasing healthily, as more people
get to hear what they have been missing.

Case in point. In fact valve amp sales are in the commode, and have been
there for about 40 years. The swill in the commode might bubble and froth
from time to time, and tubie sales might jerk up from time to time, but at
the end of the day all the commode needs is a good flushing.
