integrated amp UKP500 (to replace MF A1)? by Nicolas Hodges
My Musical Fidelity A1 has finally given up the ghost, it seems. Any suggestions what to replace it with? My list so far is: - Meridian 551 (exdem so I can afford it...) - Primare A-10 - Arcam maybe, but I don't go a bundle on them in general I guess £500 is tops, maybe £600.

Ringing Noise by Dave W.
This is only 90% OT ! I wonder if anyone has any idea what one of my close neighbours has in his/her bedroom which whines at high pitch for minutes on end most evenings. Once while lying in bed with the windows in summer mode, I thought I was suffering from tinnitus. It isn't loud, but it is ... penetrating. Very constant, finally winding down in pitch then off. Any ideas? Dave W.

Headphone amps? by Nath
Would it be worthwhile buying a headphone amp for my phones? (Grado RS-1's) I'm currently using the headphone socket on the Audiolab 8000S. Been recommended the Rega Ear at £100. Having two sets of inputs would be useful- one from my integrated amp (or maybe DAC), and other from output from my AV pre-amp. ta

All-in-one turntables by Rob
Hi - I recall a post about these a while ago, but can't seem to find them now. A friend has asked me about getting one (turntable-amp-spkrs in one box) as a short-medium term solution while she's moving home and has all her stuff (except records) in storage. Anyone any opinions/views? TIA Rob

Cleaning options by Alan T
lurk mode=off A question for the assembled intelligence of the group if I may... I've recently acquired some vinyl that has not exactly been loved over the years. The record surface isn't too bad, but the noise levels are atrocious, even after playing them a time or two and cleaning the accumulated dust off the stylus. My immediate thought would be a clean via a Moth or similar, but...

Grado headphone storage? by Nath
Just received my Grado SR-1's. :-) Are there any hard clamshell cases around to store these headphones? The cardboard box isn't hardy enough. Size of the foam cut-out is 32 cm wide x 24cm high x 4cm deep. ta

FM aerials and riggers by Nicolas Hodges
I got in touch with the only local rigger I could find, and they quoted me £110 including installation plus £45 labour. I guess the latter means per hour for anything beyond putting it on the roof (i.e. cabling). Turns out it is a 40cm circular thing. Sounds to me horribly expensive for something so mundane. Precisely what aerial should I be getting? And can anyone recommend a rigger in...

Tuners UKP150 and less by Nicolas Hodges
I need to replace my analogue tuner (Denon TU260 Mk1) which has died following damage while in storage. I was going to simply go for a MkII, but noticed that there are a lot of Arcam tuners around second-hand (mostly T61). I found four around £150 and would stretch to that if it represented a major step up. Does it? -- Nic

figure-8 right-angle power leads by Geoff Winkless
Hi Trying to find a source of Telefunken (?) figure-8 plugs which go off at a right-angle so that I can plug in the power connector to the back of a stereo without either bending the wire (and thus the socket) at a pcb-damaging angle or leaving a 3-inch gap for the lead to come out. I'm surely not the only person who's ever wanted to do this: however I can't seem to find anyone selling them :(

re-labeling tracks by All
Hi My son is learning the bass and has a cd for it. The tracks are labeled in a stupid fashion. I've had the same problem myself with other instructional cd's. I've copied them to mini disc and cut the tracks the way I want. But I wish to go one stage further. I wish to then take it back onto cd with good track labeling or go from cd to cd burning different track labels. I have a personal MD...

Hum problem: linking amplifier to computer soundcard by david
Could anyone please offer me some constructive suggestions: Almost a year ago, I bought an Echo Mia soundcard and installed it in my computer. Up to now I have not got it to work properly, suggesting that my set-up is incorrect. My set-up: the soundcard is installed within a new-ish Dell Dimension PC. It is connected to my stereo via two pairs of mono leads, each manufactured with an RCA...
