Source of 3.5mm gold plated audio connectors ? by
Malcolm Stewart
Hi,
I'm on the lookout for gold plated mono and stereo audio connectors in the
popular 3.5mm diam. fitting. I've noted that the tin plated variety are
noisy when used for microphone input purposes.
They're common enough on the small head- & earphones, microphones etc. that
come with audio gear. What I'm after is the bare connector so that I can
make up my own leads. RS Components do some at...

Re-coning speakers by
Dear all,
does anyone have experience of/recommendations for re-coning a woofer?
One of my 12" drivers on my yamaha NS1000s is seized, and I would hope to
have it repaired rather than buy a new one.
I am also considering wether to try a used pair of ATC 10" or 15" drives
I've seen advertised locally.
The sensitivity is about 93 db /w/m and the crossover is at 500Hz.
A spare is available for...

Recomendations for upgrading system? by
Chris
So I have a Marantz PM 66SE KI amp I picked up a few years back.
Mission 700 speakers circa 1980 vintage that the missus says look tatty and
wants me to change (Can probably get better anyway for not much money)
Philips CD104 CD player which is nearly as old and I have to admit is a bit
of a museum piece.
So...

Sub crossover/standmounts? by
Nath
I'm thinking of replacing my Rel Storm amp panel with one that's got a
better crossover filter, and routes frequencies above the knob setting to
the phono outputs. So I'm looking at a BK digital switching sub amp panel,
or perhaps SVS PCi panel.
# Now I've currently got DAC to 8000S, then onto 8000SX, then speakers.
Subwoofer connected to speaker level. Speakers are receiving full-range...

pausing streaming audio by
Howard Delman
I am looking for a piece of software that will let me pause streaming
audio, a la Tivo. For example, I want to be able to pause an internet
radio stream while I take a phone call, and then pickup where I left
off. During commercials, I could then "fast forward", to get caught up.
Does anyone know of any software to do this? All I can find is
software that will record a stream, and then let me...

amplifier recomendations (long) by
Andy Evans
If they still have the black Elcap capacitors, replace them now
I just replaced the Elcaps on my speakers with all polypropylene - big
difference and quite plainly more transparent with better treble. Elcaps may
get you started, but they aren't where you want to end up. a propos
polypropylene caps for speakers, ICW - who make the caps for the top B&W models
- have a new range of Clarity Caps...

amplifier recomendations (long) by
news
Hello again, long time no post due to the chaos of moving house and a few
other problems to boot ;)
Heres the problem, i no longer have enough room to maintain both my systems
(see edd ans zoes page on the ukra website)
The home cinema has all be put in my new lounge with an 8ft screen and a
pioneer 2011 thx amplifier. I have no room for my valve amp anywhere, let
alone a second set of speakers.

Speaker recommendations please by
Geoff Rait
Yes, I know I should google, but just call me lazy...
I'm looking to spend c. 500 GBP / $CDN 1300 / $US 900 on a pair of standmount
speakers for a room 15' square(ish) that's semi-open at one end. Currently on
the list to audition a
B&W CM2
B&W DM 602 (maybe too big for the room?)
B&W 705 (over-budget at $CDN 2200, but I'd like to cf. them to the others)

Putting his money where his mouth is.... by
Andrew Walls
Various journalists in several publications have claimed that their HiFi
sounds better when one (or more) "Shatki Stones" are placed somewhere in the
vicinity of the components. Conjurer James Randi has offered $1 million to
these journalists and the manufacturers, PWB Electronics if they can prove
in a double blind test, that "Shatki Stones" and/or other items such as the
"Red-X pen" and...
