Russian Speakers request for info by
Dave Lester
I picked up some items of hi-fi equipment at an auction, mostly run of
the mill stuff. However there are a pair of speakers, I haven't found
anything about.
Size about 10x18 and very solid wood construction with closed baffles.
What's written on the back is manufacturers logo: MUN (? ) in Russian,
then
TYPE 10 - MAC 1

New forum for single drivers by
Jem Raid
The single driver site forum was closed the other day and James Melhuish has
established a new site.
This will be a lot more comprehensive, with sections for files; box
computation spreadsheets for instance, for images; of speakers that members
have made and of course the traditional forum, with friendly and profuse
help for all those interested in using single drivers and the making
cabinets...

CD player by
Tubbs
Hi,
I need some advice/recommendation.
I'm after a good quality CD player separate that has optical/coax digital
output and can also play MP3 files from CDR, preferably one that has a text
display too. I'm unsure what to go for and my budget is £100 to £150 max,
but the cheaper the better, obviously!
Anyone point me in the right direction.

Speakers from music centre - use with pc? by
OrmesbyJohn
I know zero about speakers...
I have a Aiwa music centre, Model NSX V900 with a couple of nice speakers,
ref SX-ANV900.
The recording tape deck had failed so thought I would use the Aiwa speakers
with my pc.
Is that possible? If so what plugs into where?..There is a surround speaker
cord plug and a speaker cord with just bare wire end per speaker. Thanks,
Pete

Double CD boxes by
Simon Long
Hi All,
For my money, it was a black day when the "slimline double" CD case
was introduced. (Around 1992, if memory serves.) Up until this time,
double albums were packed in double-thickness jewel cases, which held
the discs in standard inserts.
I *hate* slimline double cases. When new, they grip the discs so
securely that I fear for the discs every time I remove them. After a
few weeks use,...

FA: Old but good by

It's a PL-12D. It works. In view of this, it's worth more than £2.50.
Isn't it????

Where can I buy a 2 way A/V switch? by
Ian R
Hi
I need a two way audio/visual switch (scart or composite + R/L audio) to
connect a freeview box and a VCR to a TV that has only one A/V (SCART)
input.
Does such a thing exist and does anyone know where I can buy one?
I'd prefer a manual rather than an auto switching one as an auto will be
forever switching back and forth when vcr and digibox are both on.

Retrofit remote control to change volume? by
Wally
How would one approach retrofitting a remote control to a ready-made preamp?
Am I right in thinking that I could put some kind of receiver into the amp
and use an existing remote? I don't envisage a need to do anything other
than volume up/down and mute.
What's the cheapest way to get a receiver? Maplin seem to do a few kits /
modules - lots of them are 'two channel' - do I need three channels,...

Soundproofing by
Jem Raid
I saw a post about this a bit further up and thought I'd add my ten pennorth
down here.
I used to help out at a large loft recording studio, it was in a row of
terraced houses, the bloke who owned it attached old carpets to the walls
and laid them on the floor, I know the floor had six you could count them on
the hatch, I don't know how many he attached to the walls. Then he made a
false floor...

clarity vs musicality by
Richard Markham
I've just upgraded from an old cyrus 1 and celestion dl 8 speakers to
some monitor audio silver 7's and an exposure XXV amp.
I have a Pink triangle deck which I am now running through a Gram Amp 2.
It's fascinating to listen to all my vinyl again and hear so much more
detail. So much more detail that one can clearly hear duff recordings
revealed for what they are... It makes some records quite...

Which system is best to connect to a TV? by
Simon Farr
Im looking for a HIFI that i can connect my freeview box to - i dont
want surround sound/home cinema so my ideal system would be as
follows:
- Optical audio-in (to connect to my optical-out on my freeview box)
- Radio + CD
- 2 Speakers (rather than sub and satalites)
- DVD player and DAB tunner would be excellent but prehaps out of my
price range

Best Budget Player? by
Lee B
What's the best budget player at around the £40 to £60 mark?? I need
multi-region, VCD, and MP3 playback. The quality of the CD playback is also
important (although I know I'm only buying a budget player).
There are a few on sky.com/buy, but it doesn't give the model numbers so I
can't look up any reviews.
Any advice anyone?
Cheers in advance

FS: Complete Cyrus system - £800 - Edinburgh by
Guy Verbist
Hi all.
Due to a sudden house move to somewhere smaller I'm still clearing out
a lot of stuff.
For your consideration here is a complete Cyrus system.
The executive summary would be that the system comprises a Cyrus 3
amp, Cyrus DAD 3Q CD player, Cyrus FM 7 tuner, Cyrus Hark rack, and
Cyrus Audio Commander additional remote.
