That would be Peter Paul and Mary. Mary was Mark before the sex change.

I don't think the USA is sure what nationality they are, since they are
basically all middle Europeans and South Americans posing as the liberators of

Switching Speakers by
Andrew Metcalfe
Cross posted from rec.audio.tech
I am toying with the idea of installing several sets of speakers around my
new house when I eventually move. What I would like to be able to do is
drive all the speakers from a single source and switch each room on/off as
required. I have seen some of the speaker switches on the market - is this
all I need or is there more. Also these switches seem to be just...

this has got to be one of the coolest 8-track decks I ever saw, it
plays both 8-TRACK TAPE CARTRIDGES and CASSETTE TAPES, in the same
player. I have fully tested and played both modes with tapes, they
both work. And it comes with the original OWNERS' MANUAL. Imagine
this in your modern minivan or sedan,...

Hello pop-pickers
Not sure where else I can ask, so I'll try this list !
Name this song !
A group, all white blokes, I think,
not sure which nationality, but sing in English,
a sort of mildly progressive pop ballad,
singer-guitarist slightly plump, I think, and definitely bald,
and definitely sat on a chair all through the video clip,

Audiolab 8000DAC Query by
Tat Chan
Alrighty. A 4 - 5 year old 8000DAC has appeared on the Oz Ebay site. I
believe it would be the "MkIII" designation as it would have been the
last model produced before the 8000DAX. The 8000DAC in question has a
"20-bit" DAC.
My current CD player is a Rotel 965 Bitstream player that apparently has
a lower than usual SNR for CD players due to the ultrasonic hash
produced by the Bitstream...

Advice on speakers for Home Cinema rcvr... by
Jim Lesurf
In article ,
I can't understand the meaning of ohms at all, tried looking at various
webpages with diagrams but it still doesn't make any sense.
To get a given output sound level your amplifier puts a given voltage
across the speaker terminals. The speaker then demands a current.
Impedances in Ohms are simply the ratio between...

Diss secondhand hifi shop by
Will Reeve
A few years ago (maybe 10!) I remember visiting Diss in Suffolk and finding
a little second hand hi-fi shop which was really very good. I was there at
the weekend and couldn't find it, has it moved or gone under?

Digital Audio Portable by

have bought a Creative Labs Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 40 player, it was an
experiment to see if I would use it. It has proved a success since I do.
However I find it a bit big & clumpy and am considering replacing it. My
requirements are as follows (the coding is E=essential, HD=Highly Desirable,
D=Desirable) anyone know the correct player?
Available in the UK (E)
As small (or smaller) than an IPOD...

Older seperates vs new system by
MG Lewis
With around £200 budget I've been thinking of buying a new hi-fi
system like a Sony or Panasonic or going to richer sounds and trying
to pick up some bargain seperates from their Trade Counter section.
I keep hearing that seperates invariably offer better quality and it's
tempting to build up a system as and when I could afford to improve
it. However, I've read online somewhere that CD...

Does anyone know anything about these speakers?
Got them from a boot sale and they need some work (the cone of one of
the woofers has come partly unstuck from its rubber mount). Even with
this problem they sound pretty good at low volumes, but I'd love to be
able to turn them up and see if they fullfil their promise! However,
I don't know what they are worth (and therefore how much it's...

Micromega Supplier in UK? by
Maria
Hello
I have a Micromega Minium amplifier, and have posted to ask if there
is still a UK distributor of Micromega products. I wish to buy the
tuner and CD player. (Wish I'd bought them all at the time!)
Thanks!

DVD audio question. by
Richard Blackwood
Hello group,
Some hi-fi systems I've seen are advertised with having DVD functionality,
which to me appears to mean that these can be used as home cinema upgrades
to your TV and DVD player.
Does it also mean that they can play DVD's too? By that I mean could you
record a DVD full of music or mp3's on your pc and play it back on such a
unit like a normal CD?

Are these seperates or hi-fi? by
Richard Blackwood
Hello group,
I have begun taking an interest in audio equipment after years of pottering
along with my cheap 'n cheerful Aiwa hi-fi. I'm now looking to replace but
am confused by so many choices/opinions/functions on audio equipment. I
have a few questions for the group if you dont mind, beginning with:
After browsing through Argos to get a feel for what's available, prices etc.
I see that...

Big Stiff Power Amp for Dynaudio Audience 52SEs? by
Fleetie
Hi.
While I like my nice valve amp, at 40WPC, it doesn't have quite
the kick I sometimes need for driving my (4 Ohm nominal) Dynaudio
Audience 52SE speakers. Not enough voltage headroom for serious bass
as in Bjork, for example.
I have a very strong suspicion that these speakers would benefit
well from being driven FIRMLY by a very big stiff (low Z_out) power
amp.
