PSU upgrades for LP12 by
Peter
I read a lot about the sonically wonders of a DC motor kit (Origin Live) and Linn Lingo and Naim Armageddon power supplies.
I´m currently using a Valhalla supply, but what can i expect from either of those supplies? Can anybody give me a technical description of why a , say, Armageddon should be better than a Valhalla? The valhalla is Quartz controlled, the Armageddon is an OVERdimensioned...

No, it's a newsgroup. Like most newsgroups, people express their opinions.
The fact that you don't like a particular poster's opinion doesn't make
those who post here "bitches". In fact, the only "bitch" I...

Software to split CD by
Paul
Not sure if this is the right group to ask this question but, if not,
perhaps someone could point me in the right direction. I have a
promotional CD which is mixed so that the whole CD is one long track.
I would love to re-record it so that it is split into individual
tracks so I can easily skip from one track to the other. Anyone know
any software out there that will allow me to do that?

Buying CD Player: Old Linn Audio or New NADs/Arcam? by
Adrian Kwa
Been down to the shops recently... looking for a CD player to go with my
Rotel RA-01 and Monitor Audio Bronze B2, using QED Silver Anniversary
and Qunnex 2. Been looking at the NAD 540BEE or splashing a bit more on
Arcam CD73. Happen to see secondhand Linn Audio (usual price around £700
it says) selling for around the price of the NAD at about 150. Can't
remember the model number. Which...

Bulb replacement by
RJH
Hi - can anyone identify this bulb:
http://tinyurl.com/3cf2h
from a Pioneer SX 750 receiver, late 70s model? It's about 3mm in diameter
and is used on the panel to indicate 'stereo'. And where to find a
replacement?
Many thanks

Cordless headphones by
Dougie Nisbet
I'm thinking about getting a pair of cordless headphones. Requirements are
being able to wear them while digging up the spuds. So range is important.
What I've found in my research so far is that not that many of them have a
volume control. I might find this a bit of a nuisance.
My shortlist so far includes:

Q: Helius Aurum tonearm by
Peter
Hi,
Can anybody share any info about Helius Aurum tonearms?
A typical second hand price?
Cartridge recommendations?
How does it perform?
I have recently acquired one of those (silverwired), and thinking about
trying it on my (early 90s) LP12 (valhalla PSU), instead of the Rega RB300
i´m currently using.

Electrocompaniet eci-3 problem by
Franco Patrucco
Goodmorning,
I have a Eci-3 new version (s.n.: 30027). When i select an input, for
example AUX, and i turn off and then turn on the unit using the MUTE
function on the remote, the AUX input remains selected; but, if i turn off
and then on using the MAIN SWITCH, the new input selected will be CD every
time! It start every time with CD line input selected. Is this OK?
Thanks.

copy protected CDs by
Andy Fish
Hi,
I was just listening to a CD and noticed it had a "copy controlled" logo on
it, so I thought I would stick it in my PC to see what happened.
I cancelled the "do you want to install the software" dialog, then went into
nero, selected 'save tracks to HD' and I was able to save the tracks to
uncompressed WAV without any warnings or anything.
Have I been incredibly devious here? I wasn't...

CD needs replacing by
Woody
My long serving but enjoyable Philips CD610 looks to be nearing death - one
of the teeth on the drive cog that opens and closes the drawer has broken
off - if another adjacent goes as well that will be the drawer stuck.
I'm wondering if now might be opportune to get a DVD. Anyone out there know
of a machine that doesn't cost the earth but does play CD music at least
tolerably? Half decent...

Hi Fi repairs by
Peter Cartwright
I am an elderly and totally non technical individual, and recently, but
quite characteristically managed to muck up the settings for the
dvd/amplifier connection in my system. Thos was set up for me by a friend
who is now overseas. I rang a local (Camden Town) Hi Fi shop and asked
their rates. Minimum call out $47.50 plus VAT, and £1 per minute after 20
minutes! Quite apart from the cost being...
