Love Songs by
FedupLurker
On an edition of HIGNFY there was some banter about what song to be
played at ones funeral, apparently Robbie Williams "Angels" is current fave.
But Jo Brand related how a friend of hers had gone out to an Elvis song...
"Return to sender"
Which I thought was a rather good choice.

Cambridge A60 by
Dave Plowman (News)
I've been fixing a Cambridge A60 - turned out to be nothing more than both
speaker fuses blown. But thought I might as well check the quiescent
current while I'm at it. And the method given in the manual is weird -
replace the PS DC fuses with 15 ohm resistors and measure the voltage
across them.
Not having any high watt 15 ohm resistors to hand is there a different way?

IQ Test software by
Jim Lesurf[_2_]
Just to let anyone who is interested know that I've finally collected
enough 'round tuits' to produce publically available versions of the 'IQ
Test' software. The programs can now be found at
http://www.audiomisc.co.uk/software/index.html
(Just scroll down to near the bottom of the page to find the links to
archived versions of the software.)
The IQ Test lets you make very precise 'wow and...

Mission Speakers ? by
TonyL
Somebody has given me a pair of Mission 780se speakers.
I've not had chance to try them or examine them properly but I have my
doubts. Before I cart them home....are they worth taking ? Maybe as PC
speakers, or what ?They are very small units but quite solid feeling.
Description on the back is '2-way reflex, 6 ohm, 75 watt'

Dave Plowman (News)
Probably because anyone glancing at it finds so many posts that have
nothing to do with audio - like this one.
OT topics can do quite well on an established group where the majority are
about the basic subject. But it's a long time since that was the case here.

Help with wiring colors on old headphones by
Patrick[_2_]
I have some vinatge headphones (Sennheiser HD424) and want to attach a new
plug.
Which color wires are the positive ones?
The colors in one of the leads are red & blue and in the other lead black &
yellow. (No wire is used as screening - there's just two wires in each
lead.)

mw12c mixer by
Mike Scott[_2_]
The local Talking Newspaper has just gone digital, and as part of this
has bought a yamaha mw12c mixer. Quite the wrong kit, imo, far too many
knobs; but there you go.
However, there seems to be a bit of a problem with the mixer. After some
time of running, the sound becomes very distorted. Although I know for
sure the waveform was badly clipped in places, the audible distortion
/appeared/...

Audio Compression Advisor – online recommendations on bit rate and sampling rate selection by
Sevana Oy
Hi,
Recording large amount of audio always requires a proper selection of
sampling frequency and bit rate to optimize storage and quality of the
recording. A precise and more sophisticated approach is to use AQuA
Wideband, but when you need a quick advice on what sampling rate and
bit rate to use for your podcast, meeting recording, conference
speech, audio book or other large amounts of audio...

WTB: 2x 80mm mid-range drivers by
Chris Hills
Hi
I was careless in transporting a pair of 3-way speakers. I am looking
for a pair of 80mm/3" mid-range drivers to repair it, ideally 40W/16Ohm
but I will take anything as long as the size matches.
Regards,
Chris

That power amp has... Jitter? by
Arny Krueger
In my travels I've discovered a source of technical tests right here in the
UK.
It is the Miller Audio Research Avtech web site:
http://www.milleraudioresearch.com/avtech/index.html
Miller Reasearch is well-known for their heavy involvement with testing
audio gear for jitter, but they also do most if not all of the classic
tests.

Nothing much doing so I've posted the quick microphone comparison I
mentioned recently.
These are are a simultaneous sax recording with two different mics, one
costing about 10X the price of the other:

Record cleaning brush recommendation? by
Rob[_5_]
Seems to be quite a collection at:
http://stores.ebay.co.uk/analogueseduction/_i.html?_fsub=6767680
Any particular favourites? I had a Hunt EDA which was OK - but they're
quite pricey nowadays.
Thanks, Rob
