Transformerless microphone - why? by Keith G[_2_]
My dinky little Neumann TLM102: http://www.neumann.com/?lang=en&id=current_microphones&cid=tlm102_description seems very pleased to be 'transformerless'! :-) Why? What advantage (if any) over ones with (presumably) transformers does it have, or is it just a cost-cutting exercise? TIA from anyone with a clear answer - not from a certain 'someone' on a

Stuck meter mystery. by Keith G[_2_]
With my Neumann TL102 mic connected to my tubey microphone preamplifer and the amplifier connected to the PC using my new (flashing) XLR/USB lead, the Output Level meter shoots up to approximately -0dB and stays there, not moving even when recording, thus: http://www.moirac.adsl24.co.uk/showntell/StuckMeter.jpg When the computer is switched off the meter drops off to its normal 'inactive'...

Same meter - different cable, different stuck by Keith G[_2_]
OK, a nice new post as the original 'stuck meter' thread has been *Plowmanised* and degenerated into the usual mile of snide remarks and personal insults. My original mystery - not a 'problem' as such, because everything was working OK - was that the XLR3F/USB cable I bought: http://www.moirac.adsl24.co.uk/showntell/Packaging.jpg

Now you hear it now you dont? by Brian Gaff
On a similar note to the lat thread, ie strange microphone happenings.. Last night we tested some tie clip mics given to us as surplus to requirements. I'm sure you know the sort, they have a little battery in them and a slide switch on the side. Unbalanced with 3.5mm plugs on the end of a long wire. We have a mixer with a home made bass cut switch in the input. this simply puts a capacitor...

Decline of CD and vinyl singles by David Looser
I spotted this on the BBC website. It seems that the decline in sales of physical media is affecting vinyl as much as it is CD. http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/12850186 David.

Tandberg 3341 reel to reel by Brian Gaff
is this worth getting repaired do you think? I think electrically its OK, but needs belts, clutch, and tlc I think, also the knobs are all going brittle and falling off. Brian -- Brian Gaff....Note, this account does not accept Bcc: email. graphics are great, but the blind can't hear them Email:

Cyrus 1 amp. by Dave Plowman (News)
Anyone know these well? Good, average or indifferent? I've got one in for repair (intermittent on one channel) and would like to know if it's worth much bother repairing, as it's quite scruffy too. -- *Age is a very high price to pay for maturity. Cyrus 1 amp. by Dave Plowman (News)
All sorted - thanks to mike for the setup instructions. Biggest job was repairing the front panel fixings. The mains switch needs them to be secure as it operates via a pivot, and if that isn't rigid it won't work. Later models have a metal rather than plastic front panel, so they obviously knew it wasn't brilliant. -- *Wrinkled was not one of the things I wanted to be when I grew up

OK, a reprieve then.... by Keith G[_2_]
A pal of mine* who is one of my 'inner circle' (does triodes and vinyl but not horns only due to lack of space) has a son who wants to record microphone to computer (guitar and vocals): He knows I do a little of that myself and has asked me for advice but they want USB connectivity and four channels which is over my head: I have no experience, I only do mono or two channels stereo -...

AudioDocs website by Jim Lesurf[_2_]
Occurs to me that I've not mentioned this much, so may be of interest to do so now. In parallel with my AudioMisc website I also have an AudioDocs site http://jcgl.orpheusweb.co.uk/AudioDocs.html This is for copies of things like manuals and circuit diagrams of some old UK kit. I tend to put a copy of something there when I get emails from people asking "Do you know where I can find a manual...
