Woof woof by
TonyL
I have a couple of 12" drivers sitting around doing nothing in the loft.
They are of unknown manufacture with rubber surrounds and (from memory) are
rated at 100Watts or similar. I forget the nominal impedance but they were
fairly standard. I was wondering if it is worthwhile installing them in a
sealed (not ported) enclosure and driving them from a couple of proprietary
ss modules and lp...

Armstrong page by
Jim Lesurf[_2_]
Oops. Sorry. I originally posted this to the wrong group...
I've just put up a new page on the Armstrong site.
http://www.audiomisc.co.uk/Armstrong/oanda/726.html
It is the first time in ages that I've added anything to the site, but I
hope to add a few more items about little-known aspects of Armstrong when I
get the chance.

Hi-Fi hearing aids? by
Eiron[_3_]
Anyone got any advice about decent quality hearing aids in the UK?
The wife has pestered me long enough so I need to get something.
HF hearing loss, difficulty in understanding speech in noisy environments,
the usual old bloke stuff caused by too many rock concerts and riding
without earplugs.
I'd expect that noise-cancellation, custom frequency response,
compression and peak level limiting...

BBC online aac stream sampling rate move by
froggy
Hi everyone.
Has anyone noticed that the sampling rate of the BBC on-line aac streams
has moved from 44,100 kHz to 32,000 kHz?
The bit rate however is still the same (128kbit/s except radio 3,
320kbit/s).
Anyone with an explanation?

Best laptop for hifi? by
Mark Lewis
I am buying a laptop to use with a hifi eg iPlayer or YouTube through
line out to amp.
Would a low end 300 quid Dell give the same results as a more expensive
laptop or are there quality issues with the choice?
What would be a good choice of laptop dedicated to that use ie plugged
in most of the time to the hifi?

iPod dock/clock by
Grumps[_3_]
Hi
I'm looking for an iPod dock/clock similar to
https://www.logic3.com/index.php/supportfiles/product/view/id/2315/
but perhaps with a better amp. Ideally the unit should:
1) Drive external speakers (internal speakers are not needed). Say 10-20W
per ch.
2) Have an alarm clock that doesn't utilise the iPod's clock.
3) Have an external line in, or maybe 2.
4) And a headphone out.
5) Built-in DAC...

Audio Precision System One Dual Domani Measuirement Systems by
Arny Krueger[_2_]
I'm part of group that is readying two Audio Precision System One Dual
Domain measurement systems for market.
The units have exceptional provenance. They were owned by Stereo Review
Magazine and were the personal tools of Julian Hirsch. They still have
Hachette Publications property stickers on them.
Hachette Filipacchi Media U.S magazine operations, like Ziff Davis, and
indeed Stereo Review,...

XO help wanted. by
~misfit~
Hi. I've been reading here a while but not posting so much. It's mostly
above me but I'm trying to learn....
I have a problem, forgive me if this is the wrong forum in which to ask for
help. However I feel that I'm quite a way away from being able to sort it
out myself (although I do have a budget LCR meter that just arrived from
Hong Kong).
I have some small two-way speakers that I'm quite...

I have a couple of old but good pro radio mics which are VHF so no longer

Sweet spots by
TonyL
Some time back I posted in here regarding lack of a sweet spot when using a
pair of IPL transmission line speakers. I never did resolve the problem and
just lived with it...until now. I've just bought a pair of Behringer B2301
near field reference monitors and the difference is astounding. I'm hearing
high resolution and detailed images both spatially and acoustically with
these speakers....

Small speakers recommendation by
Rob[_7_]
I'd like some speakers for a small room/office, and they'll be tucked
into a bookshelf. The room is about 10'x8'x7'(H). I'm not looking to
spend very much - up to £100 second hand. Amplifier 20WPC SS. Any
recommendations?
Thanks, Rob

Indeed so, and there was a marked increase in behavior which was not

Modifying response of CD material by
Jim Lesurf[_2_]
I'm hoping this might make a change from a mega-thread about "Audio
Precision" that is actually wandering all over the shop!... :-)
I've been experimenting with 'sox' to deemphasise audio CD data, and the
flexibility of sox set me wondering about using it to eq old EMI recordings
that sometimes have an edgey quality to the strings, and lack low bass
because of their old fear of bass causing...
