DAB signal in North Norfolk by
Ian Bell
As of yesterday the DAB signal strength in North Norfolk seems to have dropped
dramatically. I am near the coast at Holt and both my dab radios keep dropping
out and the signal strength bars have dropped to at or below the minimum acceptable.
Anyone know what has caused this? is it a transmitter problem?/
Cheers
Ian

Speaker imbalance by
Rob[_5_]
I've got an old ( 5yrs) pair of recently obtained ATC SCM7 speakers.
Something sounded wrong from the off, and I think I've isolated it as a
faulty tweeter. One is distinctly louder than the other, and I can't
reliably differentiate the LF units, which seem much the same.
I've reached this conclusion by just connecting up the HF or LF
connectors on the speaker terminal panel. Swapped...

Says it all really. HiFi as a concept is pretty dead for me. Almost
everything audio sounds 'good enough' these days (if used in an
appropriate context, natch).

FAQ: Welcome to Usenet UK by

Mission amp schematics ... by
Arfa Daily
Anyone by any chance got a set of schematics for a Mission Cyrus amp to hand
? It has a small DC offset on one channel. Not large, but enough for the
protect circuitry to see it as a problem. Unfortunately, I am seeing lots of
tantalum bead caps in it ... :-(

DAB advice by
Gordon MacPherson
Hi,
Looking for a DAB radio to leave in the bathroom! Main problem is
reception - it seems to be a weak signal - so sensitivity is an issue. Also
must run on batteries so battery life is a consideration. Does not need any
fancy features - radios 3 and 4!
Any ideas?
Thanks,

Phono preamp in old receiver problem by
thanatoid
Hi all,
I have an old Sharp AM/FM receiver with an 8-track player. Made
in Japan ca. 1975 or something. It had a BSR turntable which was
broken. I removed the seized turntable, cleaned the whole unit,
sprayed all the pots, replaced the three little 6V bulbs behind
the black/green tuner window, and it is fabulous. It's built
like a tank and weighs a ton. The pots feel like military grade...

Making a mono-from-stereo cable by
Andre Jute[_2_]
Time to return to tech-talk.
In a modest-sized room (by horn standards anyway) I want to rig up a
singleton of my modded semi-Fidelio bicor horns for Lowther PM6A. I
thought I'd do the monoing in a specially made 1 metre cable between
the CD player and the power amp.
The QUAD CD expects to see at least 10K impedance on its outputs.
Output of the CD player is 2Vrms and about 0.5Vrms of that is...

DAB-FM antenna splitter by
Woody[_3_]
Apologies to some who may have seen this query elsewhere.
I have recently acquired a 'shoe-box' Yamaha unit with DAB and FM
and each has its own antenna connection (F and B-L respectively.)
I have UHF/FM/DAB antennas all combined (on individual inputs) by
a Televes loft amp/distribution, so TV and radio - required at
the same place - will come down one cable.
I'm sure I've seen somewhere...

Audio sensing power switch? by
Norman Billingham
I have a pair of ATC SCA50 active speakers. They make a great sound but the
amplifiers run all the time, even when there's no signal to amplify. Since
they run in class A there is a significant current draw 24/7. As they are
at opposite sides of the room, turning them off involves two switches and
doesn't get done unless we're going away.
My previous Bowers Active 1s had an audio signal...

Protecting speakers against switch-on pops and DC by
Andre Jute[_2_]
Paul G asks:
"hat is the best way to protect a
speaker from destruction if the amp is sufficiently powerful, and you
have no control over volume? It happens.... the kids have fun with
your stereo, the grounds come loose on the inputs (huge buzz), the
system oscillates, etc."
I don't know if you want to design and build your own stuff from
scratch, Paul, or merely want to buy a plug-in protector....

Dynaudio replacement driver by
Rob[_5_]
Just had an update on the second* driver replacement for a 7 year old
Contour speaker. The glue had failed along a 1cm join, at the point
where the rubber surround meets the driver cone.
All fixed, new woofer, for £135. However, the retailer was instructed
not to allow me to keep the broken driver. This is policy and all
replacement drivers are only supplied to authorised dealers on this...
