The Pinkerton Pathology, part 2: the awesome certainty of his psychosis by
Andre Jute
Andre Jute wrote:
One of the symptoms of Stewart Pinkerton's disease which distances him
from sane people is his unshakeable certainty that the truth is
whatever he wishes it to be, without any reference to objective

Here is a brilliant example. The one thing everyone knows about himself
with absolute certainty is his name. Yet...

Poopie Troll-Bear is itching for a bitching.
I suspect the influence of the music has long ceased to be of importance to such

WTD: Info on ELEC UK TW4/17 and 10RM/212 drive units
I rescued a pair of homebrew speakers a few years ago, and during my spring
cleaning, I rediscovered them in the loft.
Boxes are a bit tatty, but the basic sound is surprisingly good. Inside there are
ELAC (UK, not Germany) drive units : TW4/17 tweeters x2 and a 10RM/212 woofer.
Crossover is a simple 2uF capacitor to the 2 HF units which...

The measurement and the experience by

Foobar - Help! by
[email protected]
I've finally got round to setting up a hard disk based music system -
ie a PC + Musical Fidelity DAC.
I'm ripping CDs to uncompressed wavs with EAC - no problems there, but
after that it gets a bit confusing.
I'm using Foobar2000 to play the tracks as this seems to be the
software of choice. However, although powerful, it seems to be a very
unforthcoming beast with a learning curve like the North...

Best interface to DAC (?firewire, PC etc) by
Andy Evans
Hello boys!
I have an excellent DAC (Chris Found V-DAC4) which takes coax, optical,
firewire and XLR inputs. I've used the optical and coax up to now with
CD and DVD transports. If I want to go on and connect my computer up to
it, what are my best options. I have an ordinary PC with a standard
output - no extra soundcard. I might buy one because I want to connect
up my MIDI keyboard. Ideas? -...

Warfedale speaker repair ? by
Jo
I have a pair of Warfedale speakers that have worked great for 30+ years. I
love 'em !
However, one of the woofers has developed cracks/holes in the rubber
surround. I can see that there are plenty of (none uk) companies offering
generic repair kits but nothing that seems to exactly fit these units. Also,
most of them are offering foam surrounds, not rubber. The cones are 247 mm
dia and the...

Disabling volume control by
[email protected]
I would ideally like remote volume control on my Stax energiser, which
is out of reach of my listening position. However, I've not found any
gadget to enable this. I currently have it directly connected to my
DAC, but I'm planning on connecting the dac to my pre and running the
variable out of my preamp (which allows remote volume) to my Stax.
My only niggling concern is that there are 2 volume...

Devil's Own Saucerer Strikes at Gay Wedding, invents Hot Pink Tagliatelli "Blush" by
Andre Jute
Coupla gay mates from my days in the theatre are getting hooked and
have asked me to devise a pink theme meal.
The difficult thing is actually a pale pink sauce that tastes like
something on warm food. This is my solution, here described for the
complete dish I made on trial at home for my family:
Lay out and prepare the ingredients for tagliatelli with chicken in a
white sauce plus a bottle of...

Small form CD player - no wider than 12.5 inches by
oa5599
Hello,
I have just bought a new shelf for my turntable, and unfortunately, my
CD player is too wide for it. The thing was only cheap, so I am looking
for some advice about how I can upgrade.
What I need (please) is any information on a separates CD player that
is no wider than 12.5 inches (30cms). Models would be great, and
anyones experience of the piece would be useful. Can anyone help?
