Propane, and Propane Accessories! :-) by alexander.keys1[_3_]
The sound production on this is so bad it's good, sounds like a low- budget radio ad, done with just a cheap computer mic with no processing, and mechanically played backing with all the life compressed out of it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGtqz4aZyfM

Headphone DAC by Jim Lesurf[_2_]
Anyone have a headphone DAC they would recommend my considering? Should be (rechargable) battery powered, have a volume control, and optical spdif input. Needs to accept 44.1k and 48k at 16 bit as minimum. For use with a laptop. USB in addition would be neat, but having spdif input avoids any possible problems with driving from non-Windows/Mac boxs as I only use Linux and RiscOS. I've found a...

Turntable Motors by Rob[_5_]
Why do belt drive turntables, usually British, have noisy motors? Is it really beyond the wit of designers/manufacturers to use a quiet motor? I've just bought a Roksan Xerxes, curiosity buy, and the motor vibrates to the point that it can be felt through the plinth. Apparently (having been through forums etc) this is quite normal. It's a testimony to the design that very little of this...

All your BASS belong to us, TOT music in pubs by alexander.keys1[_2_]
On 30 June, 02:41, " wrote: Just sent: Hello there, We greatly enjoyed our stay last week. We liked everything about the place except just one thing, and that was the music system in the pub. Guide price for a pair of Kef 104s? by Terry Fields
An imminent house move means the pair of Kef 104s are 'no longer required'. These are teak with black fret, and date from 1976. If I advertise these in the local rag, what sort of price should I ask? What sort of price might they go for? The veneer isn't perfect, but it isn't that bad either, but the fret is beginning to 'go'. Any pointers gratefully received.

Capacitors by Dave Plowman (News)
Not really audio, but I've just fixed a not that old satellite receiver which died after being totally powered down. Two electrolytics in the power supply. Luckily easily found by the bulging. Is there a particular make that is best for SMPS use? The failed ones were branded Samxon - not one I've heard of. -- *The average person falls asleep in seven minutes *

DSP confusion. Possibly irresolvable. by Lostgallifreyan
Can anyone tell me if a Motorola XC56361 (56361, Google will NOT give results for its full name, hell knows why) the same as a Motorola XC143410GC? I'm asking because Echoaudio Layla 24/96 PCI boards are said by one of Echo's own staff to use the XC56361, and the ALSA mailing list has archived pages that support this, yet I have THREE actual Layla 24/96 PCI cards that all have the XC143410GC...

Pathé by Eiron
I found a sleeve amongst my 78s with some interesting text: PATHÉ'S DISC Important Notice 1. PATHÉ'S Discs do away with the necessity of a needle! 2. PATHÉ'S Discs must be used in conjunction with Pathé's special sapphire diaphragm. 3. PATHÉ'S Discs begin from the centre. (Place the sapphire point in the first groove after the rim.)

Replacement belt for a Dual 505-4 by Rob[_3_]
I've just been given a broken one of these - first problem is the belt is cracked, rigid, like plastic. Never seen likes before. I've written to the manufacturer in Germany (they still make them it seems) - does anyone have a preferred supplier as an alternative? Thanks, Rob

Storing audio CDs - max temperature? by Andrew Gabriel
Is it safe to store audio CDs in a loft which regularly hits 45C in the summer, or is that going to cause them to deteriorate? These are standard mass produced ones, not home written in a CD writer. -- Andrew Gabriel

New software for examining WAV files by Jim Lesurf[_2_]
Hi, I have recently started writing Linux versions of the software I use to examine or process LPCM WAV files. I am in the process of making these available for anyone who wants to be able to do similar examinations in a comparable way. The Linux softare (and RISC OS equivalents) is linked to the page at http://www.audiomisc.co.uk/software/index.html

Rega RB300 turntable... by Arfa Daily
Hi all Anyone happen to know the value of the resistor in the CR network connected in the synchronous motor feed ? Looks like brown - red - brown so 120 ohms, but it's well overheated and discoloured, with a nice burn mark right around the spiral element, right in the centre. Can't get a reading from either end to the burn point. Looks at a guess to be rated about 3 -5 watts. Anybody think...

It's all gone very wrong for usenet. Here in UK we now have proportional representation but dictated by the Liberals?
