as a digfital 'crossover' feasable/desirable? by
Jim H
Some input on an idea...
Have the cd transport feed a DSP, which uses fourier transforms to split
the audio about some crossover frequency, this is then sent a four channel
DAC and a four channel amplifier (possibly bi-amped stereo) and out to the
high/low speaker drivers.
The point is more manipulation of the signal is applied to the robust
digital stage, rather than delicate analogue....

Tonearm Mass and Suitable Cart - was Choosing Hi-Fi Cart/Stylus by
Doughboy
I've found out that my Gemini PT-2000 has a tonearm mass of 9g, which
is lower than the Technic SL1200's 12g.
Does this qualify it as a high mass tonearm, therefore making carts
such as the Ortofon 510 or 520, with their high dynamic compliance of
25 µm/mN, or the OM 5E (20 µm/mN), unsuitable for use with this
tonearm? (in which case, can I assume I'd be better of with something
like the Ortofon...

CD cleaning discs - any good? by
John Fryatt
Hi,
Does anyone have any experienceof CD cleaning discs? How do they work?
Are they 'risky' in anyway? Do they do any good?
The reason I ask is that I recently got a new (used, but new to me). It's an
Arcam Alpha 8SE.
It plays regular CDs fine, but I had a problem with a CD-R that I had made
in my PC.
After a bit of fiddling I made another copy of it, which worked. The

Broken Mission Cyrus 2 by
Thom White
My Mission Cyrus 2 Amplifier has died, well, the little light still
comes on, but no sound comes out.
What I'd like to know is, can anyone recommend a good (UK) repairer, or
is it worth me sending it back to the manufacturer to get it mended.
Also, if I am to send it back to the manufacturer - is it Mission, or Cyrus?

Please be gentle, I am new to all this!

Choosing Hi-Fi Cart/Stylus by
Doughboy
I'm trying to choose a suitable Cartridge & Stylus that will give good
quality results when recording my records onto my PC. I've already got
a good soundcard (Audiophile 24/96).
I've currently got Stanton 500AL's and Shure M44G's. The stylus'
probably need replacing on these anyway, but I find that my recordings
(through the phono input on my amp, so bypassing my rather crappy
Vestax mixer) are...
