PC Audio by
Dave W.
Sorry if this seems off topic. There doesn't seem to be a PC audio
newsgroup, and I could do with a bit of help.
I have just bought a Terratec EWX 24/96 soundcard because it sounded just
the thing for me. No fancy bells and whistles, just quality 2 channel
stereo, in and out. Got it, loaded the software, but it is not self evident
to me (a pc audio newbie) how to record from the in-line. Is the...

The first thing you play when you've got some new kit... by
Nathan Higgins
After testing with a Sound Test CD I like to listen to Pink Floyd, Mike
Oldfield and Tracy Chapman. Listening to one song/track doesn't give me a
wide enough impression, maybe 5 or so different songs before coming to a
conclusion on quality. Tubular Bells is immense blasting out from 400w I
have to say

Never use a test record, do not listen to test records so why use one to set
up, much better using your favorite CD Record

Extremes of snake oil selling by
Paul
This description has been cut & pasted from an E-bay ad for Ixos 6003
speaker cable , biggest bottle of snake oil ever presented ?
"Please note, the cables are cut to an exact and scientifically measured
length for best reproduction, so do not cut them or they will not sound as
they should! "

Joining audio coax cable by
Mick
I need some help on the above please. I have connected my Sky digibox
to my PC and use these to record concerts from radio 3 Recently I
noticed that I was getting clicks on the recording so my first thought
was that the cable connexions between PC and digibox might be at
fault. The dual coaxial cable is in 2 lengths connected together using
phonoplugs. I have great difficulty in soldering these...

The first thing you play when you've got some new kit... by

Second in the queue is the last five or six minutes of the first part of
Ommadawn, and if I've got some new kit that's really improved things,
I'll probably have been reduced to a quivering blob of jelly by then.
on a similar vein.... the complete 60mins of Amarok by Oldfield gives
my system a complete workout... I've yet to hear the vinyl version of
the same album but I'd love to hear...

Where can I buy bits for making my own interconnects by
Laurence Payne
Con I do this and get good results? I have a sroldering iron and a bit of
experiance and have a few components that can only neatly be joined with
custom cables
For example, my pc to vcr needs scart to 2*3.5mm for sound in/out and and
2*phono for video both ways. (Most my audio cables aren't that complex)
Is there somewhere I can buy, say, 10m of decent quality interconnect cable...

help needed with crossover for a sub... by
Jim H
I've been messing about with a sweep generator, it confirmed my suspicions,
that my crossovers are all wrong, especially with my sub.
I'll describe my system a little, a sprawling rooting trip through many
second hand stores with a student budget...
The most common source for sound is my PC (silent - no fan noise!), but I
also have a rather nice Technics SL-Q33 tt. These both feed into a...

Recommendations wanted for CD Portable with GREAT SOUND QUALITY by
Bob Ladbury
I'm looking for recommendations for good CD portables on the basis of
SOUND QUALITY. An aspect which seems to be overlooked all over the net
for this equipment. Probably the reason why I can't find a decent
sounding player in the stores, too. I'm only interested in an
AUDIOPHILE'S point of view. Someone who's point of reference is only
consumer audio mass-market crapola is not going to have an...

Try RS Components. Ring them on 01536 201 201 and ask for a catalogue/CD.
You can ask them for a cat, but they won't supply you unless you're a
trade customer who's going to spend *a lot*.

How to select S/PDIF compatible devices? by
Faustino Dina
Hi,
For connecting a DVD player and other digital sources to the AV Receiver I
should use the S/PDIF interface. But what about the compatibility between
devices? I've read about sampling rates, then when buying I should take care
that the sampling rate the source device is sending is supported by the
receiver? What else should I consider when digitally connecting two devices?
Which is better...
