The first thing you play when you've got some new kit... by NewsGroups
I've been brought to tears by some music on my system. Granted the music in question holds personal memories but still. It's like being completely covered by sound. Fully submerged. I love it.

Which CD player for Roksan Caspian integrated by Herb Asher
Hi people, I have just aquired a new Roksan Caspian Integrated amp as a present. I am wondering which cd player would go well to complete my set up. I was thinking of plugging for the matching Caspian cd player but have now seen there is a new Arcam player out, the FMJ CD33 and wondered if anyone had any opinions on either player. My speakers are Tannoy Mayfair's (circa 1980) duel concentric...

CD Recorder for Analogue by RJH
Can anyone offer any advice/experience on a standalone hifi component cd recorder for recording LPs? I've read various reviews but they all refer to digital copies, and they all seem to do that reasonably well. I was going to get a Philips 795 but on comparing the more expensive version (the 820) has different 'distortion' figures - 90db, against the 85db of the 795 - despite having identical...

Replacing capacitors by Chris Isbell
I am currently working on changing the electrolytic capacitors in my Quad 33/303 amplifier. After nearly thirty years of daily use, they are probably at or beyond the end of their useful life. So far, I have replaced the four large electrolytics in the power amplifier. (Two are for power supply smoothing, connected in parallel, and two are for decoupling the speaker output.) These were...

Technics RS-B555 cassette deck by Wigglytuff
Hi there, I hope this is the right ng for my question. I just aquired this deck and all seems to be well. Was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of manuals, or help out with a couple of controls. I've tried all the usual things (google, etc) but no luck. APRS button - what's it do? Only seems to be usuable in Rec-Pause mode.

HARMAN KARDON DAL 150 and .WMA files... by Faustino Dina
Yes, it's the kind of device I'm talking about. Before this I knew the iMic from Griffin Tech but it has no digital output. The Harman Kardon DAL 150 has digital output, but it doesn't says anything about WMA compatibility, and it's a little expensive... Thanks for your hint Faustino "RJH" wrote in message ...

Small bookshelf speakers approx £100 by Zweef
In article , says... Mate wants some speakers, per the title. They would actually go on a bookshelf, rather than stands, so rear port is out. Any suggestions for decent sound at the price? Wharfedale Diamond 8.1 comes to mind. Front port, they're defenitely worth a listen.

The first thing you play when you've got some new kit... by Andy Evans
So what's the first piece of music you play? I play two things: Steely Dan's later albums, because the mix is very complex and contains a lot of low level details which you either hear or don't hear - you need some sort of 'Yes-No' check besides the purely subjective.. Wagner's Meistersinger - Solti - because you need the acoustic sounds of orchestra and voice to check on faithfulness of...
