I've had a second-hand Rega turntable for quite a few years now
and would dearly love to positively ID what model it is...

Hi,
I'm planning to buy my first signal processor, but I need some help to
define my specifications. I want an entry-level console, to get digital
inputs from DVD and "normal" stereo sources and provide output for surround
speakers. But specially in DVD there are a lot of standards that changes day
to day...

Need a tube CD/SACD/DVD player! by
Öökintölli
Need a really good tube CD/SACD/DVD player to replace my current Sony piece
of junk. I would also consider separate transport and tube processor.
My system is:
Brentworth Sound Lab Type IV speakers
Art Audio Diavolo amp
CAT SL-1 Ultimate preamp

Thorens TD160 motor replacement? by

I wonder if the local vinyl cognoscenti might be able to help here?
A friend left his TD160 with shot motor bearings with me a while ago.
Thorens USA wanted USD$160 for a replacement motor, which just seemed so
absurd given it's squitty size, and the ~double exchange rate in NZ, that

Audio Snobbery! by
citizensband
I've been reading a great number of threads with considerable interest on
here recently, and I've arrived at the conclusion, the biggest single factor
when buying audio equipment, is the badge placed on the front of it.
Lets take a look at Hi-Fi reviewers who work for magazines, I've read
hundreds of reviews over the years. How many people have they brainwashed?
How many perfectly acceptable...

Question about older equipment vs new stuff by
R
I haven't looked at buying new hifi equipment in the last 10 years so I'm
going to be comparing my existing kit to the latest stuff, the question is,
should new equipment that costs that same as the original stuff sound much
better?
I've currently got :-
Marantz CD52 Mk2 CD player (not the special edition or KI)
Bought around 1991, cost around £180

FM wireless Headphones by
Paul
I'm thinking of getting a set of wireless headphones to replace the
wired ones that died on me recently.
I am wondering if there is any degredation in sound quality with the
FM headphones....ie Is it noticable when compared to wired headphones.
Any reccomendations on which brand is best?
Thank you

switching audio between two rooms...? by

I want to hear my AVR in two rooms, not simultaneously. I think I
need some kind of switch to interconnect from one pair of speakers to
another. But the user manual of the AVR recommends connect the
speakers only when the receiver is not on the power line. Then I'll
need to power off...

Cheapest place for Arcam A85? by
Des
Just about ready to submit preliminary tentative broad financial
proposal for a new amp - the Arcam A85 - when I realised the phono
stage is optional and costs another 110 quid! Are they taking the
p**s?
FFS, don't Arcam understand anything about how hi-fi gets bought.
Me: I want a new amp and it costs 800 quid and I'll I pull a year-long
sulk unless I get it.
