recommendations for small monitor speakers by
Maaaaaaaaaark
I've been out of the hifi loop for a while now and I wanted to find out the
group's recommendations on small monitor speakers. It has to be under 250
gbp and fill a medium sized room (16x8m). I have a REL Storm so something
that's bass light is no problem, I can have the REL fill what's missing. It
should be clean and neutral though through the mids and highs. Richer Sounds
is selling Mission...

where can I get spikes online? by
Jim H
It's about time I got spikes for my sub. It don't vibrate much cos its
such a heavy bugger, but coupling can only improve the sound, right? The
sub already has the inserts.
I've looked around. Richer have some for a fiver but out of stock, every
other site I try only has magic spikes for £35 or more.
And GOLD PLATED speaker *SPIKES*... man, who buys this stuff?!

Hello valve lovers, wherever you are. by
Andy Evans
I noticed this: Thorsten's in the UK
"You can make a ultra-low-noise MC-amp with discrete JFET's such as 2SK170 or
2SK389 (double-JFET) They are remarkably easy to work with, and much less scope
for screwing up things as with opamps. Check out these:

Importing - is it worthwhile ? by

Now that I'm starting to upgarde to some hi-end (just) gear I am feeling
the
pain with UK prices.
Why do items that are manufactured in say China, or NZ, cost so much more
here than in, say, the US.
They have to be exported to both countries (e.g. from NZ to the US and...

"Budget" hifi gear: recommendations? by
Andrew Walkingshaw
Hi. Before I post can I please, *please* make a request, based on
what a week and a bit of lurking seems to suggest about the atmosphere
round here;
I'd like to get a budget turntable and a CD player, because there's
music only available on each format which I want to play. Please, could
the vinyl addicts and the vinyl bashers lay off each other in this
thread? I'd be ever-so-grateful. :-)

Hello valve lovers, wherever you are. by

SETs are old news. They were how amplfiers were built before worthwhile
innovations like push-pull and feedback
Yes, of course, everything gets better - traffic jams, games shows, celebrity
glutted magazines, digital cameras, McDonalds "restaurants", A level
performance, crime figures, good manners...... I mean, how could traditional
things POSSIBLY be any better than the "advances" in society...

ukra Webpages - ukrav Webpages by

Now that the new uk.rec.audio.vinyl newsgroup is off to a good start (no
small miracle in itself as it appears no-one much can access it yet) the
time has come for me to consider my own options.
Assuming I ever get to see it on my own Provider's list (or
news.cis.dfn.de/news.individual.net ever get back to me with my lost login
details) I think it is time to ask myself the 'should you be...

Need a tube CD/SACD/DVD player! by
Andy Evans
recording engineers still choose a mic for how it sounds, not for accuracy
Maybe what sounds good to them IS in fact 'accurate' to them. Maybe tubes are
exactly the same - musicians choose them for how they sound, and because that
sound is 'accurate' to their ears. Would you choose a car from the brochure
specs or would you drive it?

Can I do this safely ? by

Can I send the " centre " channel output from my DTS preamp processor to a
Cyrus 1 integrated amplifier to utilise the power amps in the Cyrus.? I was
wondering this as I would like to use my old Cyrus 1 as a centre channel
poweramp instead of buying another poweramp.
If I adjust the volume control on the Cyrus to a reference volume on my
processor & leave the Cyrus volume set at this would the...
