Just listening to (a vinyl of) Elton John:

The lyric runs:

Staggering results! by
Andy Evans
I think Stewart is on to something with acoustical transparency here. I was
just playing a piece by John Cage on the hi-fi and I swapped from valves to a
ss amp. Sounded exactly the same. I swapped in three different DACs - again
sounded the same. I tried nine cables - again, sounded the same. I tried some
floorstand speakers instead of 2 ways. Sounded exactly the same. Turned on the
subwoofer -...

Recording streaming audio by
Ian Pollard
Hi
I am not sure if this is the correct place to ask so please excuse me
if it is not. I would like to record some streaming audio files that I
have listened to using Real Alternative player. Is it possible and if
so, how?

New comer to hifi, some questions by
Akeel
I am a young musician and as part of my hobby do a lot of stuff on the
PC, computer speaker systems just weren't cutting it for me...
Earlier this year I decided to invest in a better soundcard (mainly for
recording purposes) and some hi-fi equipment, I got a Marantz SR7300 AV
receiver, Dynaudio Audience 42s and other bits like a projector, which
is irrelevant.
At the moment I'm using the...

MP3 Players by
Steve W
There are a number of pretty cheap (say £30) MP3 players available based on
flash memory storage. So, given that I aleady have a 512kB SD memory card
(for my digital camera), it seems that I could get one of these players and
be able to have about five hours of music. That would give me a few Mahler
symphonies and songs and get me through a day's gardening very nicely. I
already have a Sony...

Wiring up an old sub question by
Nick Brooks
Hello All
I have a technical query about wiring up an old Rel Stadium. I'm
planning to use a pair of Anthony Gallo Nucleus Micros for the higher
frequencies and my trusty Rel for the lower freqencies. The problem is
that the Gallos can be damaged by frequencies below 125 Hz. Normally
these would be filtered by their sub but as my Rel doesn't have a high
pass filter I have bought a pair...

Speaker Level Multi room by
Ed
Hi,
I am wanting to distribute sound from 1 amp to multiple rooms, and
control the volume (to complete off) I was also want to distribute IR
as well back to the same amp. I don't want to use a dedicated multi
room system, due to cost.
I can't seem to find much information / sellers of speaker level
volume controls in the UK. Anyone have any luck finding reasonable
(compared with US price)...

Two pounds for the Monkees... by
Keith G
Just in case I may have mislead anyone here (with all this 'vinylology'
lately) - Swim has just got back from a quick trip over to the town for
'essentials' (olives with chili peppers for her, jam doughnuts and
white-iced sticky buns for me, a DVD and popcorn, an alarm clock with a
choice of calls - rooster, seagulls etc.... :-) and she hands me three LPs.
'Ow much?' sez I - 'Three quid' sez...

Hi,
Are there any decent sounding mini or micro hi-fi systems around that can

Cheers,

PC sound card to Hi-Fi by
Wilder
Hello
I want to connect the output of a PC to an audio system that has stereo
phono RCA inputs and an AUX switch. Two questions:
1. I think the cable will need to be 15 metres. Will this work or will it be
too long and downgrade the signal? If okay, can anyone please recommend a
good supplier of a 15m cable with 3.5mm stereo jack on one end and phono
plugs on the other.

QUAD 44 Aux/Radio input for CD/DVD ? by
Jonathan Ives
Hi,
has anyone modified either the Aux (100mv) or CD/Aux (300mv) input
modules on a CD input for better results with highish outputs from
CD/DVD ?
I don't have a low output radio and so replaced the 1M shunt with
470K, but still not too much control. Before dropping to 100K or even
47K I thought I'd see if anyone has found the best balance. I also

Strata v Quake - A Considered Opinion Sought by
Welly
Scenario:
Denon AVR-2805 driving Monitor Audio R90 L, R & Surrounds; R180 Centre; plus
REL Strata (original 60W version) subwoofer in 3m X 4m listening room.
Source material is Music and Movies from Pioneer DV-656A.
Question:
Would it sound better if I replace the Strata with a Quake?
TIA,
Welly.

Hearing Stuffed by
Ian Bell
Soon after I turned 40 the eyesight started to go. Now, since turning 50 I
have noteiced that one ear has better HF response than the other. Today I
was calibrating the replay side of a tape recorder using a test tape. I
could hear the 10KHz tone but when the 12.5KHz tone came up I couldn't hear
a thing! Me ears are shot to pieces.
