Zen and the Art of Valve Amp Maintenance by
Keith G
I wonder why the 'antivalve' ****s here seem to automatically presume that
valve amp users/preferrers haven't got, had or use ss amps! It's a bit like
motorists seem to presume *automatically* that if you ride a motorcycle you
haven't got a car (or two) sitting at home......!!!
(PS. I much prefer riding motorcycles to being stuck in a car also.......

I had an interesting experience this morning. I have been helping a hi-fi
newbie at work choose his first AV system. When it came to amplifiers I
had advised him to try the Arcam AVR300 which suited his requirements and
would nicely fit on his tv/hi-fi rack. Plus I knew of Arcam's...

I R Motorised volume control. by
Dave Plowman (News)
Anyone know of such a thing at a reasonable cost? I realise Vellerman do a
VCA type, but the actual audio quality isn't good, and it defaults to zero
if powered down. A kit without case and PS would be fine as it will be
built in. Or a complete unit if cheap enough.

Marantz CD 6000 problem by
Ben Coffman
I've a Marantz CD6000 (not KI version) that I've really enjoyed as a
great sounding CD player. It's recently developed an odd fault
though.
After a few minutes play, the sound can get crackly and the volume
swings wildy up and down from much louder than true output to barely
audible. Looking carefully at the display readout as the disc plays,
it doesn't appear as if the disc is skipping at all,...

Volume controls for 100V sound system - READ THIS ONE by
Christopher Hill
Hi!
(Sorry about the previous post, clicked Send too early. Please read this
one).
I'm a complete PA system novice, but I've been trying to work out how to
upgrade my church's sound system to include some volume controls. Done a lot
of reading/researching on Google, and I've got the hang of some of the
concepts. I'm hoping you guys/gals can help me with the rest!

Bob Latham wrote:
Don't anyone ever tell me all good amps sound the same, they
simply don't, unless of course these amps are both not good.
Or one of them was good and the other wasnt.
Or the listener imagined it (you didnt say anyone else heard that, only
the listener)

JBL puzzle, Ti-600 by
Andrzej Ch.
Dear Collegues,
I own pair of JBL Ti-600. unfortunately, I have to replace the driver ( the
electronic part inside) in them.
The problem is that I have lost all papers regarding the speakers, so I do
not know technical details of them. furthermore the info on the back of
particular speakers do not provide too many useful info. There are only sort
of codes.
1. Does anybody has an older catalogue...

See this eBay auction 5725646743
If I read it right it's not much over a hundred quid atm with only 10 hours

prices??
OK, they could be ****e and this one's positively boasting about its
(claimed) 5% THD at 28W figure but all I'll say is that since Tuesday
night's sesh, one poster here has bid and won a chinky amp...

Connecting media pc to av amp by
Chris
I am thinking of replacing my entire HiFi system apart from the Mission
783s, rather than going the traditional route I'd like to get a media pc
with tv tuner, dvd player and etc. then a decent AV integrated amp.
The question is this; is it possible to make a direct digital connection
from the pc dvd/cd drive to the av amp and use the amp's DAC? If so what
will the sound quality be like...

Twinkling numbers??? by
Keith G
My bloody newsreader (OE) briefly displays a high number of 'new posts' and
instantly drops back to a lower number on a routine basis. Just now it said
'16' before dropping down to '9' in a flash. Does anyone else get this?
(I've got no-one 'binned' atm!)
Is this just the crappy software or does anybody think I'm losing posts?
(Apologies if anyone feels themselves 'ignored' as a result!)

Turntable channel buzzing by
NOSPAM
I have a Project 1 turntable fitted with an Ortofon 510 cartridge.
It's been working fine for years of light use. I recently moved house
and on setting it up again, I found there was a loud buzz on the left
channel. Switching the plugs around at the amp switched the buzz to
the right channel so I know the amp is ok. I thought that maybe there
was a problem with the connections to the cartridge so...

AAC - Opinions? by
asdfg
I have an MP3 player capable of playing AAC format as well as MP3. All of my
music in currently in MP3 format.
Should I convert my MP3 files to a slightly lower bitrate AAC? Is 96kbps AAC
any good? - because if I converted tracks to that I'd get a lot more on my
player.
Overall, what are people's opinions of AAC?
