Op amp fan-in then fan out by
TonyL
Here's a problem that is causing me some grief. I'm rusty with electronics
these days, perhaps the experts in here can give me some pointers ?
I want to combine the audio outputs of an unspecified number of op-amps, say
2-20. A simple mixer would do the trick...except I need the resulting summed
audio level to be constant as outputs are connected to and disconnected from
the system.
I know...

Faulty AV Amplifier by
Rob
I've just sold a Cambridge 540R AV amplifier on ebay, and the buyer has
reported a fault - the sub and centre channels don't work. I only ever
used it as a stereo amp, and never had any problem with it. In his words:
---
The connection is from the DVD player Optical lead and also coaxial
out. Both and either have been tried / and fail to produce any output
whatsoever on centre and sub. The...

getting old reel to reels going by
Mildew Spores
Is there any company who can get things like Tandberg 3341 type decks up and
running which have belt and clutch problems etc. The knobs fell to bits as
well, but that is superficial.
I have some tapes I want to try to rescue. Or is it better to buy some other
machine already working?

Tape recording theory by
D.M. Procida
I'd be quite interested in owning a copy of "Modern Instrumentation Tape
Recording - An Engineering Handbook", but not 48 of them:

Does anyone want to help split this?

Anyone recognise this arm? by
Jim Lesurf[_2_]
I have recently intercepted an ancient turntable/arm that was on a free
parabola that would otherwise have terminated in a skip. :-)
The turntable is ye anciente Garrard 301. But although the arm looks
familiar to me I can't recall what make/model it is! Looked though various
old magazines and books I have, but not yet identified it.
I've put some pics on the...

Headphone amplifier advice by
TonyL
I want to drive low-z (32 ohm) headphones using op amps.
For various reasons I need:
1) Quad amps to be used, there's a requirement for other op-amps in the
units.
2) Single rail, around 12-15 V, I guess most modern op amps will do that
easily.
3) Not too current hungry, I want to power a number of these units from one
simple 12VDC transformer supply.
4) Lo-fi will do so long as distortion is...

Fostex by
Godfrey Wilkes
Anyone familiar with Fostex full range drive units? Wilmslow Audio do them along with cabinet kits starting from about £200 a pair but I can't find much in the way of reviews as to how they actually perform compared to other speakers of a similar price.
May I take this opportunity to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous new year.

Cyrus II subwoofer impedance matching by
molipix
I'm building up a sound system for our living room using second hand
parts. I would like to keep things as small and unobtrusive as
possible. So far I have a Cyrus II amp - this has outputs for one pair
of speakers (rated at 8 Ohms). My plan is to connect two small
bookshelf speakers like the Tannoy Revolution R1s and add a subwoofer.
The options as far as I can see a
1) connect a passive...

How's your hearing ? by
Eeyore
The strangest thing happened to me yesterday.
I was sitting on my bed and rested my head (the temple) on my hand and I
could hear a buzzing. Now, I'd had a bad headache a few days before but
it didn't sound like the tinnitus associated with it.
So, I removed my head from my hand and the sound stopped. Then the penny
dropped, you can get bone conduction hearing.
Sure enough it was the 11W CFL...

USB: Computer-DAC by
Rob
Having a bit of a change around during the hols, and I need to link up a
computer (Mac Mini) to a USB DAC 5 metres away. I've tried it with a 5m
extension plus a 1m A-B cable, and it works, but the music cuts out from
time to time. Actually, seems fine for the last few hours, but I need an
extension cable anyway.
I would just buy a 5m cable and be done, but ebay sellers are pushing...

Zavvi Manchester has Kraftwerk Vinyl Albums! by
Fleetie
Was in there yesterday and picked up new, shrink-wrapped vinyl copies
of "Radioactivity" (already had it 2nd hand from about 10 years or more
ago), and "Trans-Europe Express". £7 each, perfect shrink-wrapped condition.
They also had "The Man-Machine", but I didn't bother, cos already got that
on vinyl too.
Just in case anyone else out there has got a decent turntable and likes
Kraftwerk!
There...
