Linn Majik 1 amp spares/repair where? by Tank[_2_]
My Linn Majik amp has developed a fault, the volume keeps fading for a sec then comes back only to be one notch lower. This keeps happening until the volume is down to 9 then it stays there. Seems to be a fault in the control chip, if I set the volume and then pull off the connecter to the the control board then the volume will stay at that level. Anyone know if this would be an expensive...

Cheepie Chinese 300B SET: Epilogue by Keith G[_2_]
I suspect *dozens* of you are dying to know (but far too polite to ask) what happened to the cheepie Chinky 300B SET I got from HK a while back and which was the subjest of so much fun here! ?? Well, I sold it to a guy from a village just outside Cambridge for what I paid for it! He came to pick it up, spotted the Dynaco MkIIIs that I also had at the time and promptly had them as well for a...

Media vita in morte sumus.... by Keith G[_2_]
I live in Eaton Ford; the A1 is only a couple of minutes away and this happens this morning: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/8031530.stm I hope all you cyclists out there take heed - it was 8:30 on a major dual carriageway on a *Sunday* morning! WTF could have happened - the traffic was so dense at that time or the car driver was asleep or summat...???

Low cost home ambient sound system by [email protected]
Hi. How would you implement low cost home ambient system? I want to have the same sound in each room of my home, and the sound should be gentle, quiet. For that reason the solution should be based on multiple loudspeakers, placed in each room. True? I remember that in one of hotels that I used, I had a radio placed in corner of my room. It was the most extreme position of whole hotel space. I...

.....as the actress said to the bishop! :-) These short 13 second clips, which I have posted before, are the same (one vinyl, one CD to suit all) have a phrase 'happy as xxxx' toward the end: http://www.moirac.adsl24.co.uk/Langue%20D%27Amour%20Clip-1.mp3 http://www.moirac.adsl24.co.uk/Langue%20D%27Amour%20Clip-2.mp3

Lowther questions.... by Keith G[_2_]
As is being repeatedly pointed out in this group, I am something of an ignoramus when it comes to certain (most) things 'audio' -some because I couldn't care less about them (CD) and others because I haven't devoted a lifetime to studying/working in audio and I'm too damn old to start now! But I do have a couple of questions - surprisingly perhaps, I like Lowther speakers (as any number of...

interference sources by Brian Gaff
Hi folks, just in the last two weeks I've had some resets of a freeview box, and decided to listen around the bands to see if it was being caused by some odd mains borne stuff. It seems it is. The offending signal is easily detected 24 hours as a kind of arcing noise every 30 seconds or so. My thoughts are maybe.. Charger trying to see if it needs to charge, plug in air freshener, or...

One Note Woofer? by Davy[_2_]
I recently bought a Yamaha YST-SW40 active woofer. I certainly adds to the bass range of my bookshelf system. But, I might be imagining this, the bass notes seem to be all the same frequency. Just boom boom boom - all the same. Can anybody recommend a track I can use to check it; that has a bass line that uses different notes? DAvy

How do I solve this speaker problem? by Davy[_2_]
I play mp3 music stored on my PC through a 60W Cambridge A5 integrated amplifier and 60W Tannoy Mercury F1 bookshelf speakers. This is a vast improvement over the previous PC speakers. However recently I bought a very old beaten up PA/guitar 60W active speaker for DJ work. To test it I connected it as a central mono speaker to the above system. The result was amazing - it's not hi-fi but...

DAB portable radio with SD record/play mp3 & batteries by John Stumbles
I'm looking for a portable radio with the ability to play back music from a memory card when there's nothing good on the radio. This seems to point in the direction of DAB + SD where the SD is intended for recording from the radio but can also play back mp3s. These sorts of things seem to have the ability to 'rewind' radio (presumably only off DAB, not FM) so I'd be choked if it couldn't record...

Discovering new music? We7 & Spotify streaming by Adrian C
Free (well, advertising sponsored - so a bargain in me book) streamed music is currently blasting through my HiFi rather nicely at the moment, via some S/PDIF trickery and an outboard DAC - not that that is really necessary. I'm using both We7 and Spotify, and noticing better playback quality of We7 (Mp3 192kbps) compared with Spotify (Ogg Vorbis q5 approc 160kbps). OK, it's not CD - but...

I was right - BluRay won! by Iain Churches[_2_]
"Don Pearce" wrote in message news:49e123f9.73422921@localhost... The LCD screen is also to small for serious use - the Panny has a laptop sized one. The idea behind this one is that the recorded material is instantly available to the Avid (or Apple, or whatever) suite, so the on-board screen is largely irrelevant - only the cameraman will use this box, and he has...

Great Spring Freebie Speaker Cabinet Giveaway! by Keith G[_2_]
Having recently dropped one on a stone step while shunting them about and broken it (the step, that is) I've decided to *finally* stop sodding around with the Jericho speaker cabinets I made a while back - they are now available *FOC* to anyone who wishes to come and collect them! (Or they'll go on eBay with no reserve...) See here for all the relevant info:...

They said it was dead in here.... by Keith G[_2_]
And it is. But is it 'audio', Usenet or the the Internet generally? I also hooked up to a number of (digital) photography newsgroups and they are mostly silent with the few that do have some traffic usually getting less than a dozen posts a day. Elsewhere, eBay is very flaccid these days with reams of identical auctions from traders (mostly Chinese) and no end of secondhand items getting no...

Problem with mp3 conversion Nero 7 by Woody[_3_]
I've just downloaded/bought the new Diana Krall CD in mp3 at 320Kb. I have twice used Nero7 to burn it onto a blank disc - something I have done many times before without problem - but all it hasa done is burn the information but no sound. I would add that I convert on the fly - no cache. I used WMA to do it and it burnt the CD, music, text, and all, with no problem although this does...

The Gadget Show by Dave Plowman (News)
Caught the end of it where they were comparing MP3 CD and LP. Same piece of music. Comment about vinyl was analogue must sound better than digital as it contains all the information rather than just samples. Wonder what their sound recordist thought about that. ;-) Missed the beginning of the piece so don't know what they made the MP3 from. If they even said. They did say it was at the highest...

Linn Majik by Tank[_2_]
just bought the old style Linn Majik amp on ebay, its in mint condition but I didn't get any instructions or manual with it, thing is when powered off and then back on the volume resets to a level that is far too high, roughly over half way and also the last selected source doesn't stay and it always reverts to cd, can someone tell me if this is normal and is there a way to adjust these...
