Remote Controls by
Walney
I wonder can anybody help. I have a Denon cd receiver with a remote
control. Connected to it I have an Onkyo cassette deck. Both
machines have mini jack plug
sockets for remote control interconnection. Will the Denon (which has
the infrared sensor) control the Onkyo? Would connecting them be
likely to cause any damage?
As an alternative approach, would a "universal" remote be of any...

Has MP3 killed hifi? by
Doki
I noticed today in John Lewis that they had no hifi or hifialike gear for
sale at all. Loads of digital radios, mp3 players and sets of little
speakers that ipods fit onto, but no mini systems or seperates at all.
Has the mass market for hifi stuff completely died? The emphasis seems to
have turned entirely to subwoofers that produce midbass at a very small
range of frequencies (bandpass box...

DENON DRR M33 by
Walney
I have been trying to source the DENON DRR M33 single cassette deck.
Unfortunately, Denon have discontinued this model. As I have a large
collection of tapes, I'd be very grateful if anybody could advise me
where I might find the unit in question.
TIA,
John

SPDIF delay question. by
Eiron
You know how it goes. You have to replace one thing, then nothing else
works quite right, so you end up replacing everything else....
I need to add a delay to my digital audio to sync it with the digital TV.
Any recommendations, that don't include listening to the TV speakers?
Are there AV amps with variable delay on the SPDIF (coax or optical)
inputs? Standalone boxes? Or just build one with a...

Optical Output by
Walney
As someone who is not up-to-date on the newer technologies, I should
be very grateful if somebody could enlighten me as to the definition
and application of optical output.
TIA,

MLSSA measurement system on eBay by
Tony
My trusty old (about 15 years) MLSSA system has to go - that's the card and
software, because the portable PC I was using for it became unreliable. It
would still be good for a speaker designer who could find an old PC with an
ISA slot, running DOS. If you don't know what it does see
http://www.mlssa.com/. eBay item 140203143477.

FS: (on eBay) Original Aluminum Thorens TD124 platter by
[email protected]
I find myself with two original Aluminum Thorens TD124 Platters which
were bought for a TD124 restoration project. So one is for sale.
A beaut of a platter, having seen a few misaligned, dented and just
plain nasty looking ones for these decks in my restorations it was a
joy to finally find not one but two good and level cast...

New website related to AudioMisc by
Jim Lesurf[_2_]
Hi,
People might like to note that I have started a new site
http://jcgl.orpheusweb.co.uk/AudioDocs.html
This is a companion to the AudioMisc site. The purpose is just to provide
some circuit diagrams and other info for people who want to service/use
some of the equipment covered on my AudioMisc pages. Only a few items
present as yet, but I will add more in due course. i.e. given the necessary

Sony ICD-MX20 - Awful Sound & Dodgy Software by
[email protected]
Compared to the other Sony IC recorders I have (ICD-MS515 and
ICD-BP150) the ICD-MX20 is a major let down - especially for the
price.
Although ICD-MX20 is very well-built it just cannot make good
recordings. There are lots of phasing artefacts - even in the
highest-quality mode.
For me the supplied software - Digital Voice Editor 3 - would be
functional enough if it could get along okay with...

Help? SME 3009 III arm set up by
TT
Yes I have downloaded the manual and yes I am competent at setting up T/Ts.
So just a brief question to clarify one point please.
In the manual it alludes to the arm dampener as if it is supposed to remain
in contact with the arm while playing. Is this so? Or does it only contact
the arm when the lift is engaged?
The problem is I can't seem to adjust the lift mechanism low enough to clear...

ebay, cheap radio microphone on air traffic control frequencies by
Bob
Ebay bash seems like good sport at the moment.
I bought a radio microphone set from ebay for £11.50 out of curiosity
to
see how bad it is.
J-MARK JM-306
Two handheld VHF radio microphones and a receiver.
Not a diversity receiver but not really necessary for short range VHF.

Gadget Show audio test (on UK TV last night) by
N_Cook
Interesting idea , acoustic guitar+singer recorded professionally and then
played back in front of a couple of pairs of ears via 2 different pairs of
speakers , in turn, driven from the same amp and also the live performer
again, for 3 way comparison.
What did the human ears detect, so readily, to distinguish the...

Common Cause For Valve Amp "Rustling"? by
Fleetie
Hi.
While I'm here, does anyone know the usual cause for a valve amp
constantly "rustling" out of one channel? Mine is doing it
intermittently and sometimes loudly, out of the left channel.
Is it likely to be a resistor burning up, or something about
the valves? Is it likely to be in the output stage valves or
cathode resistors, or...? It's starting to drive me nuts!
Is this the kind of symptom...
