HY60 revisited by
TonyL
I built a nice +- 25 V power supply, made an enclosure. Mounted the HY60s.
Then found that one of them was faulty when I powered them up :-(
The output is permanently at -17.5 V and the device gets slightly warm under
no signal conditions. This isn't a stability problem, the device is shot.
So, anybody got a spare HY60 they want to sell ? My other options are to go
buy a replacement from ILP...

Steam Radio by
David Looser
Leafing through my copy of "The Practical Telephone Handbook" (1912
edition) - as one does - I came across the description of a transmitter for
"Wireless Telephony". It consists of an alternator that generates 5A at 60V
at the carrier frequency (60kHz) coupled to the aerial via a tuned step-up
transformer. The "modulator" is a water-cooled carbon microphone connected
in the earthy lead of...

A&R A60 vs NAD 3020 (was '2-pin DIN Connectors') by
Peregrinvs
Thanks to everyone who took the time and trouble to reply to this
thread. In the end I decided not to buy the A&R A60 with the DIN
sockets (read as: didn't bid for it on eBay) and decided to bid on one
in a later auction that had binding posts.
Much to my annoyance, I didn't win the one with binding posts. To rub
it in, I could have probably won the one with DIN sockets as I could
have collected...

A&R A60 fault :-( by
Adrian Ball
Help, please!
My much-loved 30 year old A60 has recently developed a fault, but having
no electronics experience, I have no idea how to diagnose it. If anyone
can at least give me a clue, and an idea of how easy it might be to
repair, I would be very grateful.
The symptoms are that the left channel, after the amp has warmed up
distorts very badly. This is only when using the loudspeakers...

Thomson TUTV pvr, how to? by
Adice Please
Hi
The brief version first:
I have a Thomson 160gb PVR (DVB-T) originally supplied at cut price as
package with Top Up TV.
If I remove the smart card (TUTV, Sedanta etc) I also lose access to all
other features such as the EPG and the archived programs on the HDD.
A dialog appears on screen that those features are only available as
part of the subscription to TUTV. Without the card it is a basic...

New page on LP cartridge measurements, etc by
Jim Lesurf[_2_]
Just posting to let people know that audiomisc.co.uk now includes a web
version of the 4th article in my recent HFN series on LP. This one provides
measured results for the old Shure V15/III and compares it with some modern
MM carts. Also has some close up photos of each stylus, etc.
Slainte,
Jim

HY60 by
TonyL
I've found a couple of HY60 amplifier modules in my junk box. I have a data
sheet which indicates a +/- 25v power supply voltage rails requirement but
no indication of current. Power into 8 ohms is 30W. If I put a power supply
together what sort of current should I be expecting to supply to each
module ? Presumably, a simple dual rail transformer/rectifier/electrolytic
type of supply would...

R4 FreeView by
Dave Plowman (News)
Does anyone listen to this regularly off the CP transmitter? I've noticed
some quite severe distortion at times which comes and goes to no apparent
pattern. Doesn't last long - no more than a few seconds. It's often on the
sort of thing you'd not expect distortion on - like the shipping forecast
on at the moment. I've tried swapping to DAB or FM but as I say it doesn't
last for long - usually...

SDRAM muisteja by
Antero Mäkinen
Ilmastointimysteerio.
starttaamisten alkuajoilta. ASEA:n työläisiltä olin saanut kuulla erään
varsin kummallisen väittämän ja turvaohjeen. Henkilö oli sitä mieltä, että
viimeistään noin vuosi...

FreeView tuner for radio only. by
Dave Plowman (News)
I'd like to use one of these for radio only where a TV aerial already
exists but would be difficult to add an FM one.
However, it needs to be fairly simple to operate - and of course most are
meant to be used with a on screen guide of some sort.
So one with a display is really needed - and preferably one where the
display can give the number you've assigned to a channel via some form...

Replacement transformer by
Anton G’sen[_2_]
Hi all,
I am wishing to build a replacement transformer for my Cambridge Audio
DacMagic DAC (the new one that's just come out). I am unhappy with the
original PSU because it is inefficient and doesn't have a physical
on/off switch so it's constantly drawing a current unless you unplug it,
and I like to save evergy where I can.
So I was wondering whether I could build a new transformer for it...

soundcard help by
Ed
Hi everyone,
I'm building a new pc and would appreciate your views on soundcards.
I'm looking for something that can give my hy-fi a decent input , so looking
for a stereo analog output (maybe s/pdif too).
Don't care about inputs to the PC. PCI - not USB.
must be about as good as it gets for a soundcard - fed up with crap audio
out of the pc (!)

B&W speakers by
Gordon MacPherson
I am looking to upgrade my speakers. I listen to classical music from CDs in
a 16 x 10 room. Current amp is a very old A&R Cambridge but I would replace
if needed. I am looking for floorstanding speakers and am considering the
B&W 683 or 684.
I would welcome any comments on these speakers for classical music or for
alternatives in the £1000 range
Thanks,
