How Much is a Mission Cyrus 2 Worth? by
Fleetie
I have one. I wanna sell it to defray somewhat the cost of a power amp.
Dunno how much to ask for it really.
It's the model with the nice grey painted diecast case, not the one with
the flimsy bent metal sheet cover.
Ideas?

Arcam dilemma by
Uncle Keith
At present I have an Arcam Alpha 5 CD player working through an Alpha 9
amp and Mission Cyrus speakers.
I'd like to upgrade the CD player, but can't make up my mind on how
much to spend/ what CD unit to buy. I'd like to stick with Arcam.
Question - I know the CD player technology has moved on a fair pace
since I bought my Alpha 5, but I can't decide between these two players
- The now...

Zafira CD Changer installtion - in the boot? by
Richard R
Hi all,
I have just become the proud owner of my wife's Zafira, into which I would
like to install the Sony HUD and 10-CD changer from my old car.
The HUD is no problem, I can figure out the wiring and as far as I can tell
there is choice of two steering control adapters, depending on whether I
want to include the remote display or not.
The problem is where to locate the changer!

The Bug.....??? by
Keith G
It's a long shot I know, but does anyone have any experience of 'The Bug'??
http://www.thebug.com/
'Sound quality', build quality etc.???
Me much-loved stereo tuners are emitting a terrible, continual interference
these days (both of them) which I can't tune out. I've been mono for a while
now (don't bother me - I like mono) but, short of an aerial that will
seriously bugger up all the Feng...

Bye from Iain by
Mike Gilmour
Iain said that he really enjoyed the exchange of info and ideas and asked me
to pass his best regards to Keith,
Andy, Jim and Dave, etc but said he unfortunately couldn't continue in the
group under the present circumstances.
I'm now getting some very interesting info from Iain by email & I'm sure he
won't mind me passing a bit on...

van den Hul cables by
Dan Abnormal
Does anyone know if there's much difference between VDH The Bay and D
102 MkIII cables, both highly rated by the hifi press? I've just
bought a Cyrus system and wonder whether it would be worth upgrading
from The Bay interconnects, which sound a little 'thin' now. Or would
Cyrus' own interconnects be better?
For info, I need to connect CD player to integtrated amp and
integrated to power...

"Micro-Beaming" (Of Tweeters) by
Fleetie
I noticed with both my old Mission 752Fs, and now my jizzmatic Dynaudios,
that the position for optimum treble for each ear is _extremely_ narrow;
something like +/- 1cm laterally.
It seems not so easy to check vertically, but logically, I think the
situation ought to be the same.
And we're not talking big radiators here; in both cases, the tweeters
are about 2cm - 2.5cm diameter.

Spendor, Proac, Dynaudio models by
Newbie
Having been away from audio for a long time, I am now looking to
upgrade from KEF 104ab, an speaker, probably similar to Spendor and
Rogers models. I would prefer a floorstander, but not much larger
footprint than my present speakers (ie, no Quads or Maggies). This is
for 2-channel stereo, not home theater.
Please suggest suitable brands and models. Friends have suggeted
Spendor, Proac and...

Bias adjustment?? by
Keith G
OK, another one for all you who haven't managed to get a box at the opera
tonight:
My recent Chinky EL34 amp acquisition comes with fixed bias and trimpots and
no damn instructions. I don't know - is the *bias* fixed by the valve type,
the circuit (which I suspect it does) or by this figure which all four
valves are (rather conveniently) labelled with:
'1a: 31 mA' and 'S: ' - (wossat one?)

CD, SACD DVDA etc. by
Ken
Can anyone recommend a player that can utilise all the popular audio
formats such as CD, SACD, DVDA etc.? I'm not bothered about pictures
and video, just audio. It would have to have a line-level analogue
stereo output as well.
TIA
Ken

Sub down - rescue mission initiated by
Keith G
OK, the sub's down - it's resting on a crumbling ledge and the least noise
or vibration will send it sliding into the icy, black, bottomless, crushing
depths below. To make matters worse, the cook has just used up a sack of
Brussels Sprouts which were a tad past their Sell By and now the crew have
all got chronic wind. The situation's desperate - it's only a matter of
time...

The main reason valves & vinyl is better... by
Keith G
Is because I ****ING SAY SO!
I gotta be outta here 30 minutes ago, so I'll be *real* brief:
I'm getting a bit hacked off with being branded the bad guy here by people
who have either not been board for than a few minutes (and therefore have no
damn clue) or have got selective vision and/or choose to ignore the *many*
times I have said:
I have a nearly 50/50 split of valve and SS amps

POLL - What other HiFi forums do you use? by
Andy Evans
It could be interesting to see where ng members spend their time on the net -
there are several HiFi forums these days, and the information could give some
useful pointers for where to visit. Maybe we could list the groups we use, with
brief details why and what's useful or bad. Andy

Best units for 2-way DIY speakers by
Andy Evans
I've been looking at units for 2 way boxes. I guess that generally these are
going to come in 140mm and 170mm for smaller boxes. There's a good index on
http://members.aol.com/NmacSmith/f3mfg.htm though this omits information like
diameter of driver. The choices for 170mm are huge - this seems to be the
standard size for a 2-way these days. However, I thought I'd start with the
140mm ones in case...

Broken NAD CD Player by
Adam
Hi All,
I've just moved house, and despite packing my CD separate in it's
original box, it's now broken :-(
It's a NAD C520 and when I put a CD in, the disc spins up, there's a
couple of clicking noises then the display says "Err" and that's it.
I've taken it apart (it's out of guarantee) and can't find anything
obvious wrong.
