Recommend me a sound card please by
[email protected]
I have entirely embraced the digital age with my music (all ripped as
lossless files on my PC). (Boo! Hiss!) I love the convenience.
I have for some time now used the digital out of my PC into a
Perpetual Technologies P3 DAC, then into either my Stax phones or
Rotel amp/Dynaudio speakers. The sound is, to my ears, magnificent.
I have in the last few weeks built myself a new PC. The...

My sub-woofer hums... by
Tim Downie
.... and no, it's not because it can't remember the words. ;-)
All the time my KEF PSW2000 subwoofer is powered up, there is a constant
background hum. (http://www.kef.com/history/2000/subwoofers/sub2.asp)
Pretty sure it's just a mains frequency hum coming from its power supply (it
doesn't change whether any input is connected or not).
Does this sound like a fairly basic/simple repair job? ...

Wireless speakers by
Broooz
Please can anyone recommend a set of wireless speakers - preferably not too
large - that can be used with rechargeable batteries - so no wires needed at
all.
Looking for something for the kitchen that are not expected to produce
perfect sound but reasonable quality
Thanks

Recommend tutorial on testing ss parts by
Andy Evans
Hello - I know I'm safe in the hands of experts like Jim and Don here,
at the very least. Not having built much with ss, I need some way of
testing parts like transistors and red LEDs for use in constant
current sinks, filament supplies etc. I have a multimeter with a Hfe
tester on it, though have lost instructions so don't know how to set
up what it tests. I also have bench supplies for DC. I...

Help/advice with Room measurements by
Serge Auckland
I have done some measurements on my listening room and would welcome some
comments an advice.
The low frequency response of the room as driven by my 'speakers is :-

If anyone would like to replicate the FFT, the original WAV file is:-

BBC R3 gone from DAB multiplex by
alexander.keys1
Last night I was round at a friend's, and they wanted to listen to BBC
Radio 3, on their portable DAB. However it did not show up on the list
of channels, although the other BBC channels were working. I tried
rescanning it, but R3 is still missing.
This is in Leicester, presumably from the same Tx that I reported
recently wasn't providing a usable signal at my location (just tried
my DAB for the...

'Stunning' 'More Real'....??? by
Keith G
Since I treated meself to a shiny new bike a week or two ago, one of the two
salesmen (not kids - 48 and 63 years old, apparently) has been here several
times to hear my kit out of an *increasing* curiosity. (Turns out they are
both long-term 'audio enthusiasts' with a lot of 'ordinary' stuff like
Cyrus, Arcam, LP12, Impulse and IMF speakers between them...!!)
Anway, the chap that had been...

New Article by May Belt - Positive Feedback Online
Dear All,
There is an interesting (if I do say it myself) article just published in
the March 2007 issue of Positive Feedback Online.
http://www.positive-feedback.com/Issue30/belt.htm
In the 3rd paragraph of the article there is a link available to a section
of the Stereophile Hi Fi magazine's on line Forum (copy below).

Help on HDMI receiver with DAB by
§|ª®T?ߪRt?@$t
Hello experts,
After searching for ages, I still can't find a decent, high end, receiver
with a built in DAB tuner, plus HDMI, this seems to be a minimum requirement
these days - but I can't seem to be able to find one.
Thanks

Does MOSMC130 DAB have a socket for an external aerial? by
David M
I realise that this isn't a 'proper' audiophile question, and I hope
it's not beneath this group.. ;-)
Some of us have limited budgets, and have to try to do the best we can..
I'm working on the basis that a cheap system now is better than nothing,
and by the time I save up for something less cheap in future, prices
will have come down (and DAB+ will have arrived, so really no point, in
my view,...

Is it valve, or is it SS? by
Don Pearce
I have this little battery powered guitar practice amp, made by
Pignose. It sounds amazing - a bit like a Marshall 100 valve amp in
fact, and I could never work out why. These things are used by plenty
of big names on-stage, as well as plenty more who won't own up to it.
Anyway, today I had to take the cover off to fix something and I found
the reason for the meaty sound. It is a mini solid...

Speaker upgrade by
[email protected]
Hi everyone,
Been meaning to do this for a while but never got round to it and not
sure where to start.
I've had a Sony STR-DE 475 for a while now with the bundled Sony
speakers and have enjoyed it for movies.
However i've started to feed music in to it now, and i'm not impressed
with the sound i'm getting.

Playing MP3 files on a standard player by

I have downloaded a number of speech radio programmes and saved them
on my computer HDD in MP3 format. I'd like to put them on to CDs or
DVDs which will play on a standard CD/DVD player. I am using Nero 6.

Best slim budget amp? by
AP
Got some bits off ebay but 'er indores says they're too bulky for the
kitchen. I think I just might get away with it if I can swap the rather
bulky receiver for a slim - ie, not 'high' (but standard width) amplifier.
I'm not much bothered about power: 15/20W per channel would be plenty. It
would have to be an ebay jobbie - age isn't an issue. The cheaper the
better. I'd ideally like outputs...
