Sold on the spot!! by Keith G
When these fired up about 40 minutes ago I nearly had a frickin' tear in me eye!! http://www.apah69.dsl.pipex.com/show/infidelio01.JPG http://www.apah69.dsl.pipex.com/show/infidelio02.JPG I'd bought them in a heartbeat - now I know why people pay loopy money for these drivers....

Subwoofer recommendation by Rob
I'm thinking of adding a subwoofer to my main speakers (Dynaudio 52s), and I'd like to have a go at building one. Bit of background info: Room is about 16' x 12' - http://www.ifyoucan.org.uk/music/pics/musicroom.jpg I don't want massive bass, just something to fill the missing bottom bit, and an intro to DIY audio. I can pay say 500UKP, but prefer less.

Repair to 70's audio equipment by craig
Does anyone know of anybody who can reliably repair 1970's audio equipment? Preferably somewhere in the North West of England? Not talking about high end stuff here - just run of the mill stuff - music centres, portable radio-cassettes etc from people like Sharp, Hitachi, Sanyo etc. Any help appreciated!

DAB receiver for laptop? by Eiron
Anyone know what's available in DAB receivers with USB or PCMCIA? Let's not discuss bitrates here but it would be useful to get the data onto disc without going through an analogue stage, and to be able to change channel and record at various times, i.e. unattended recording of both The Archers and The Navy Lark. I believe that the Psion Wavefinder was such a beast but no longer sold. -- Eiron

Which tuner? by Wally
On the assumption that the bottom is falling out of the tuner market, I'm after something ranging between fairly cheap and a bargain (which I'm happy to wait a bit for). I mostly listen to Radio 3 and 4, with the occasional retune to a station playing stuff by these 'beat combos'. The main requirements are... Fits the form factor of a Cyrus 1 amplifier (215mm wide, up to about 300mm deep), so...

Using factory steering controls for new HU by [email protected]
Hi folks, I live in Malaysia and have just bought a new Proton. It comes with an OEM Blaupunkt MP3 head unit with what looks like an ISO connection at the rear. My steering wheel has six factory-installed audio control buttons: Vol Up, Vol Down, Mute/Pause, Next, Previous, Mode. I want to change the head unit to what will likely be either a high-end single-DIN Sony or Alpine.

Polite Speakers for Men with Hair on their Chests by Andre Jute
The indispensible Phil Allison tells us: ******* The Quad ESL57 input transformer has an overall turns ratio of 292:1. The bias voltage on the bass panels is 6.2kV and they require 18 kV volts p-p of audio to reach full output. The bias voltage on the mid/high panel is 1.5 kV and requires 6 kV p-p

Interconnect length by Wally
I'm thinking of separating the preamp from the rest of the system. (I want to keep the preamp in front of the listening position, but I'd rather get the amps and processor boxes out of the way.) The preamp is line level with unbalanced outputs, and the receiver is an active crossover which has balanced inputs. Would an unbalanced interconnect, say 10m long, be likely to have a problem? I mention...

Radio 3 sound by Pat Wallace
What do people think of R3 sound quality right now (10:05 BST, 15 July 2006)? I'm listening to a Mozart violin concerto and getting (i) on DAB noticeable "screeching" distortion on loud bits, (ii) on Freeview much better but still some distortion of the same type, (iii) OK on FM apart from the slight extra background (audible on headphones). I suppose (i) is the disgusting recent reduction to...

TV setup for audio by Richard Blackwood
I'm thinking of combing my tv/dvd/sky digibox/hi-fi system into one. Could I buy an amplifier, connect my dvd player to that and have a pair of floorstander speakers either side of the TV? I'd use this like a hi-fi seperates system for playing cd's, mp3's. I get digital radio (I know its limitations) and would like to get that through the amp & speakers but without having the tv on. Could I...
