Sugden C51 worth serious repair? by [email protected]
I've just bought a Sugden C51 for use as a preamp in a second system. All looks visually okay and connections seem right (Bulgin for power, and DIN to RCAs for output), but I can't get a signal, though the red light comes on. I haven't got a users manual yet, but have tried all the input switch combinations and the power amp is working! I may be missing something obvious--am I (e.g. I can't see...

Monster crashes and burns. by George M. Middius
Poopie bows down eastward. What's so odd about a mass market firm dumping an unsuccessful package? Why was it unsuccessful ? Because the Free Market God willed it so. Next up: The Smackin' Vengeance God will smite you for being a jackass in public. Duck & cover, Poopie!

complaining bout car dealer by Jonathan
Hi, Looking for some advise. I bought a 2006 Isuzu Rodeo new last year. I live in the Republic.. Now, the car has some issues, back axle issues, alloys peeling etc. The dealer is ignoring me and washed his hand of these problems. I know in the Republic there's a automotive association called "SIMI" which deals with matters like this.. Is there something similar in the UK/ Northern Ireland?

Sony SW7600G by David Houpt
Hi! My trusty shortwave radio has started to take a while to warm up - I know the feeling. When I turn it on no sound appears, then the volume takes about a minute to reach the expected level, rather like the old valve sets of yore. Is it worth taking it to a repair shop? Or should I just put up with it?

This is a newsgroup isn't it? by Keith G
So I want help, not criticism! See the input section he http://www.freeinfosociety.com/electronics/schemview.php?id=91 Right now I have a pair of valve power amps on the bench which have a volume control on the input. I need to remove the ****ty volume pots completely and have just about enough spare screened signal wire to do

Griffin iMic doesn't record by CJB
Please can someone advise. I have a Griffin iMic and Audacity s/w. I plug the Griffin into a USB port on my laptop, and the other end into the speaker out port of the tape recorder. I set the griffin to Line or Mic. Then I start the tape recorder playing and turn the volume up a tad. I then set Audacity to record using Stereo Mix or Line In - yet nothing is captured. Please can someone advise....

Can anyone reccommend a good supplier for audio/video leads? (No bull****, good value) Some folks seem to think that "oxygen free" = very expensive.

Disappointed in bass detail by Bion
Past few years I've been listening to my music mostly though my Macbook, using Sennheiser PX200 headphones. My ears definitely deserve a break and I needed an amp for the TV anyway, so I purchased a Cambridge Audio 540R V2 amp, and Kef Cresta 10 speakers. With the Macbook still as source. Seemed fine at first, but I noticed I was missing a lot of detail in the bass. For example, listening to...

Strange Aerial connection by doki
I've got an old Aiwa Reciever, probably dates back to the 70s or early 80s - massive heavy aluminium front, needle tuner etc. Anyway, it's got a rather strange connector on the back for the antenna - 3 holes in a row marked "FM Aerial". Any ideas on what I should be hooking up to it?

Faulty Arcam DV88 - Repair or Replace? by Andrew Virnuls
Hello all! I have a 7-year old Arcam DV88. I've posted before to say that it freezes on the odd DVD, but it seemed to improve marginally after a clean. Now, however, it's developed a more serious fault - it won't play CDs (and it's my main CD player). It's OK from cold, but only for about 5 minutes, after which it doesn't recognise CDs (it says "No disc"), and discs that are already in stop...

DIAGNOSIS HELP NEEDED - Nakamichi BX-300 Cassette Deck by EADGBE
OK, I have pulled apart my BX-300 to try to diagnose the problem it has. To refresh everyone's memory, this cassette deck is the one that keeps returning to PLAY mode, even after you press STOP and remove the tape. Also, the digital tape counter keeps flickering and re-setting itself to "0000" even while the tape is playing/rewinding/fast- forwarding. Someone told me to check for voltages on...
