Bit of a long shot. by
Nick Gorham
Subject says it all, its a long shot.
Don't spose someone knows of anyone with a Tek 7704a or higher speed 7
series mainframe to dispose of do they? If the price is right I could be
interested.

Cambridge A75 Power Amp by
solwisesteve
One for the old timers on the list :-)
My Cambridge A75 power amp has a dodgy left hand channel.
I have two choices:
1. Get it repaired - I'd like to do this because, when it was working
I was very happy with it, however I've no idea where to take it :-( No
one at Cambridge Audio was old enough to even remember this amp so
I've got no circuit diagram....

Is there really a difference between different fiber optic cables? by
eye bro kit
I recently bought the Monster Ultra 1000 and the Ultra 600
for Dolby Digital. Not only am I not able to hear a
difference between the two cables, but I don't hear a
difference between them and a relatively generic optical
cable I had on hand from years back.
I'm using the PSB Image 5.1 setup, and an NAD surround
preamp and power amp, with LAT International interconnects
and speaker cable...

On the psychotic netstalker Peter Wieck, aka Worthless Wiecky, Wyncote, PA by

*On the psychotic netstalker Peter Wieck, aka Worthless Wiecky,
Wyncote, PA*
Yo, Bob Morein, yesterday in the thread "Brian L. McCarty has
Klinefelter's Syndrome?" I offered to give you a lesson in jerking
around an obsessive on a chain, proof of my contention that they are
not capable of change to adapt to circumstance. I gave you a detailed
description of how I humiliated Peter Wieck aka...

Collecting on the promise of beauty by
Andre Jute
Electrostats aren't supposed to be loud, though they can be, and if
you have enough money to stack stats you can have really overpowering
bass as well without ever resorting to subwoofers, which have their
own absolutely tremendous matching problems. I don't see the point
though, because along the way you will sully the delicacy of the
midrange, which is the chief glory stats.
But Patrick's...

OK - here's an item which is incomprehensible. As if that's not
enough, they tell you not to buy it!

Nice one!!

I want to enjoy my music again... by
lordy
Music listening become unrewarding for many years. Sounds dull and
lifeless.
Currently have CA A500 , Mordaunt Short 914s , CA 640C , Technics SL1500
I'm looking at vinyl again but I have some more fundamental problems -
my ears, have gone to ****e. High frequency hearing is diminished - so
much so that if I'm talking with someone that is softly spoken, I keep
having to ask them to repeat...

NAD PP2 is the culprit - Thanks Serge Auckland by
max graff
Some weeks ago I had raised a post asking all experts to advice me on
'lack of detail' from my Pro-ject Debut III turntable.
After a few work related delays, this week I sat down to seriously
review Serge Auckland's recommendations on isolating the problem at
the cartridge or phono stage level.
I did some digging in my attic and found a neatly packed Denon PMA

QUESTION: Weird Behavior - Nakamichi BX-300 by
EADGBE
I have a Nakamichi BX-300 that recently got a new idler tire and works
like new most of the time.
It runs and sounds great, but every once in a while, it behaves very
strangely and I would like to know what the possible cause might be.
The strange behavior always happens when the BX-300 is in "PLAY" mode.
The first thing you notice when it starts to act strangely is that the
digital counter no...

Noisy Phono-Stage (not hum more like sea-shells) by
lordy
Just emailed Cambridge Audio with the following. Any ideas:
============
My A500 is about 8 years old (I think).
It had a phono-module installed internally at time of purchase for an
extra £20.
I've never really used it with anger until I got a half-decent turntable last
week.

Speaker testing noises by
Eiron
It would be useful if there was a standard short test track that could
show some aspects of a speaker's performance.
Something like:
10 seconds of 50Hz sinewave to set the level to 2.83v
10 seconds of white noise
Several short tracks of 1/3 octave noise at 16,32,64Hz etc.
Swept sinewave 10Hz-22kHz.
Then, assuming our microphones are reasonable, we could keep
the test recordings for posterity and...

Right channel weaker than the left? by
andyjk70
HI, hope you'll indulge this newbie query.
I have a cambridge audio 540A and Sony SACD with Gale floor floor
standing speakers. For a while I've been convinced that one speaker/
channel - the right one - wasn't equal to the other - I cleaned out
all the connections, stripped back the cables again, even swapped the
speakers around, and still it sounds to my ears like one is weaker
than the other...

DAB car aerial revisited... by
Dave Plowman (News)
After limping on for a few weeks using an adaptor to feed both AM/FM and
DAB aerial inputs off a standard wing mounted telescopic, I decided to
bite the bullet and fit the pukka thing - mainly because the FM reception
wasn't as good as I think it should be. So at a cost of more than many a
car radio I got the Blaupunkt combined roof unit. But not made by
Blaupunkt, but by our old friends...

Recommended Soundcard by
Steve Swift
I'm tempted to upgrade the soundcard in my PC by fitting a better one,
either in my one remaining spare PCI slot, or via USB2. I've been
looking at various Creative cards, but I'm getting a little concerned
about repeated references to drive problems (I'm on XP Professional, so
nothing too exotic).
I'm wondering how many different opinions I'll get if I ask for
soundcard recommendations?...

Scart Audio breakout by
Oddjob
hello everyone, I'm trying to break the analogue audio out of a scart
connector to feed some active speakers.
I have seen some scart plug to plug devices with phono lead breakout - does
anybody know if these are a parallel connection, so that the audio in the
scart works in conjunction with the breakout leads?
or do I have to buy one with TV / hifi switching?
many thanks

Starved of *audio*...??? by

With nowt but some very strange cross-posting going on (from what I can see
of it) there must be one or two of you starved of *audio* here - if so, go
see this site:
http://www.coutant.org/
There is an *evenings* interest in it, even if microphones are not primarily
your thing - keep digging, it's a very interesting site!!
Also, my own website has had a bit of a revamp - same old stuff...
