For Scottie ! Is it a war or isn't it ? by George M. Middius
Poopie raved: "London is not a battlefield. Those innocents who were murdered on July 7 2005 were not victims of war. Keep this off-topic crap out of the audio newsgroups or face a TOS complaint to your provider.

Mark Levinson - are they good or just over rated by max graff
Hi guys, I was auditioning some lovely Mcintosh amplifiers this weekend and came across a sales guy commenting "Mark Levinson amplifers are just overrated peice of yuppy trash". I know that all the top-of-line Lexus models carry MLs. But car stereo systems don't mean much to me. High-end 2-channel home audio does ;-) Any comments would be very much appreciated.

KISS Amp 300B Ultrafi finalized; circuit updated by Andre Jute
The "KISS Amp WE300B SE Ultrafi" (1) has been finalized. This is a project that was designed step by step on rec.audio.tubes. The amplifier is single-ended, zero negative feedback, built with Western Electric signal and power tubes and a Mullard tube rectifier. There are (counting by the Gaincard method which leaves the attenuator and power supply out of the count!) six components in the signal...

Crossover questions..... by Keith G
OK, some techie questions regarding this crossover: http://www.apah69.dsl.pipex.com/show/crossover1.JPG 1) Anybody care to tell me what order it is (seems pretty basic to me)? 2) Can I slap it between just about any tweeter and similar sized mid/bass unit with good effect?

AM JST2pM by alananne
Apparently this is the name of the socket for the AM aerial according to Philips for their MC118 music centre. For some unknown reason anything to do with radio including handsfree phone, cellphone and even DAB radio fails when used downstairs in our house but upstairs is very OK. My DAB radio is running OK plugged into unused TV aerial so just wondered if I could resurrect the radio side of the...

It's tough at the top by Iain Churches
It seems that agreement has been made between EMI Music and Alan Levy with regard to his departure from the company. It is reported that Levy departs with a golden handshake of UKP 7,000,000 - small potatoes compared with the deal which Levy set up by which Mariah Carey has been paid $28m (£19m) by EMI Records to end her recording contract with the company in 2002. At least on a temporary basis...

Newbie aussie speakers by max graff
Hi guys, I say an obscure little ad in an Aussie Hifi mag for a backyard company called Tympanic and checked their web site. http://www.tympanic.com.au/ The photos show backdrops of the aussie outback (tin shed and gum trees). I am not sure if it was intentional or not but anyway take time to check it out and comment.

OBs, Bacon Sandwiches and Movie Clips.... by Keith G
A couple of weeks ago an eBay buyer came here to collect my EAR Line Stage that he had just bought. There was a bit of faffing about to get it going (valve needed a wiggle) and he got to hear the Open Baffle speakers (Visaton B200s) that I had thrown together (to try out the idea) and he promptly said he wanted them!! See them he http://www.apah69.dsl.pipex.com/show/speakersgraveyard.JPG

Real 'borgs don't spin vinyl by George M. Middius
Some WannaBorg said: I have been engaged in a debate about the "superiority" of LP over CD measured stats (SNR/DR/FR/THD/Speed stability) the CD case (pun) a better transient response system can response to rapidly rising or falling frequencies viz transients. transient rise time of about 7 or 8 microseconds while CD is somewhat slower at around 23 microseconds thus LP is...

Leak 600 Sandwich speakers by Paulos
I recently came by a pair of Leak 600 Sandwich speakers: Sandwich 12" bass driver, 3½" paper cone mid and a plastic dome tweeter (I know, most of the 600s had a Sandwich mid as well, but not this pair). The mid drivers in both were stone dead (rattle croak fluff) and as result I need to fit some different mid units. The original mid units had around 16 ohm impedance, I believe, and the new ones...

Digital audio at reasonable quality? by jonT
Hi, I have an Exposure 2010 amp coupled with a pair of Mordaunt Short 902i. This has been a great set-up but I'd like to move away from CDs - the convenience of the digital age proves to be great! The idea is to run FLAC audio from a computer -- transport -- high quality DAC -- my existing amp. Hopefully this doesn't sound too blasphemous.

Placing Project Debut III turntable on adjustable cones by max graff
Hi guys, i was reading the following article - http://gallery.audioreview.com/showphoto.php?photo=1871&cat=505&limit=recent someone on here suggests getting rid of the the stock feet of the debut III with adjustable cones to improve sound quality. I was wondering how would that affect sound quality? I have pretty
