Naim Nait 3 "pops" when turned on by [email protected]
Hi There I've a Naim Nait3 which I have had for a couple of years and have found to be a very capable amplifier. I do have one question though, which may sound a bit "dumb" but I really don't know if this should happen or not. When I switch the amp on, I hear a sort of "pop" sound from the speakers, then a pause before another similar sound, it's only after

Floorstanders on stands by [email protected]
After a very lengthy Google search I've found that I perhaps made a mistake in purchasing floorstanding speakers and should have went with bookshelf. My main problem is that the speakers are about 40cm too low. I gather it's agreed I'd have been better with the bookshelves, but now that I'm stuck with floorstanders, would there be anything about raising their height with stands that would...

Best way to get Radio 3? by [email protected]
Opinions please. First, I should mention that I am a bit of a vinyl junkie: my prefered music source is my Linn LP12, although I also enjoy CDs played on my Linn Ikemi. My options for getting Radio 3: 1. I could have a VHF aerial placed on the roof of my house, and probably upgrade my tuner; 2. The digi-box that supplies cable TV also gives radio: connecting it

Converting soeaker output to line in by Big Craigie
My brother gave me his old Goodmans micro DAB unit as he broke the CD part. The DAB works fine but the system only has connections for the speaker and a headphone output. I am running the headphone output into the line in on my amp and although I am having to crank up the volume on the DAB, the sound is fine. However, I am wondering if there is a box that will convert the speaker output into...

Splicing tape by Serge Auckland
"David J Worden" wrote in message ... Is it still possible to get splicing tape for joining magnetic tape? I have had a search with Google and I can only find tape for splicing other things. I have a ReVox A77 tape recorder and 26 10½" tapes and 10 7" tapes and I only need a small roll for the occasional splice when...

Meridian M3 active speakers by Richard
I have a pair of Meridian M3 active speakers which have been packaged up for ages, and with domestic arrangements likely to change soon I'm trying to decide whether to start using them again or sell them and go for something else. It seems I've lost touch with the world of hifi equipment for quite a number of years, and with the march of technology I'd like to know if they are still considered...

Occasionally false samples from a soundcard by Juergen Marquardt
A PCI bus based "professional" soundcard has a digital input (S/PDIF). Connected this input to a CD player's output and recorded about 25 seconds using waverecorder. Found 14 "clicks" in the recorded WAV file. These clicks are false sample values, *exactly one* false sample in each case Sample value is random (never full scale nor zero). Searched for the clicks and determined their sample...

Cables -The Antepenultimate Answer. by Eiron
Shock result - interconnects sound the same! As an interconnect test I soldered up a short adapter (4cm) with a male phono, two female phonos and a jack plug. This allowed me to take a mono source and feed it directly to the left channel of a sound card, while also sending it through the interconnect under test to the right channel of the sound card. The source was Donna Summer's 'Bad...

Repair of 8-track - pulley by Patrick Hogan
Hi group, I'm trying to fix an old 8-track deck. The rubber pulley belt that the motor uses to drive the flywheel has turned into black sticky treacle and is stuck all round the flywheel and motor shaft! Is there anything that I can use to clean this treacle off? It's extremely sticky and has turned my fingers black :-) If I try to wipe it, it just spreads further - I need to remove it all...

Engineer jokes by Andy Evans
I've heard and enjoyed many muso and therapist jokes in my time, and wondered if anyone could add to my small stock of engineer jokes. The ones I have a Hot Air Balloon A man flying in a hot air balloon realizes he is lost. He reduces his altitude and spots a man in a field down below. He lowers the balloon further and shouts, "Excuse me, can you tell me where I am?" The man below says, "Yes,...

Hello, To use the Debut on different voltages/frequencies (worldwide) is it only neccessary to purchase a different external power supply from Pro-Ject or would the motor need to be changed as well ? Thank you for your time. D.

Marantz CDR 610 manual wanted by pix&sounds
I wonder if anyone can tell me where I could obtain an operation manual for a Marantz model CDR 610 CD recorder? Either hard copy or download would be fine. I've already got a service manual from manuals-in-pdf but they don't have an operation manual. Thanks. Gavin.

Practical advice on speaker cables please ? by Jo
I'm aware of the never ending discussion on interconnects and speaker cables, but I just want some advice on what to actually buy. Nominal impedance of speakers is 6 ohms. Room is quite large and so amp/speaker distance will be 4-5 meters. Speakers are bi-wired. I just need an idea of cross-sectional area and where I can get some suitable cable. I'm not convinced by the talk of OFC and so...
