The things you see when ya go lookin'...... by
Keith G
Those of you with a predilection for copious amounts of glass and iron in
your amplifiers go scrute this site thoroughly:
http://www.sacthailand.com/
See the fabulous range of choice - 300Bs and 2A3s in particular and tell me
there's no demand for these seriously *broken* amps....???

DIY computer speakers? by
Martin Schöön
Somewhat related to the recent speaker kit thread:
I have a pair of 'computer speakers' hooked up to my computer.
Sound-wise the are OK since I don't ask much from them (if I
really want to listen I go to my living room and its audio
equipment) but they are butt-ugly. So, I thought, why not
build a pair that looks better and sound better? I am not
looking for anything really fancy since I am not...

Any bright ideas for DIY finishes for aluminium? by
Andy Evans
Like may people I use aluminium in equipment cases - in my case for top
plates for valve preamps and amps. I use 4mm alu, which Fays Metals in
Acton London supply and cut to size. It's not great looking in its raw
state, but all my DIY attempts with solvent cleaners, wet and dry paper
etc are even worse. How do they get that 'brushed aluminium' effect?
Has anybody come across a successful method...

Pinkerton Lie No 317 reprised: A sociopath commits deja vu by
Andre Jute
Stewart Pinkerton claims that the THE KISS AMP 300B "Ultrafi" was never
built. He claims not to have seen the photographs. He claims never to
have been told where to find the photographs (though why we should tell
such a piece of sociopathic scum anything at all is another question).
And so on. But the post below is from 17 March 2005, almost a year ago,
and it plainly tells Pinkerton of the...

Extracting music file from Hifidelio music server by
Simon Heather
The Hifidelio music server does not (by default) expose the music files that
have been ripped to the hard drive - however it runs Linux 2.4.26 and uses
samba to expose an import directory to Windows that can be used to copy
files for importing. In order to expose the internal music folder that
contains all of the stored music tracks, it is a simple matter of using
telnet to login to the...

Newbie question on amplifers (sorry!) by
[email protected]
Hello all,
I thinking of venturing into the world of hi-fi seperates and I'm
starting by looking for an amplifier. I don't have a great budget for
this, around £150, therefore I have narrowed my choice down to the
following:
Cambridge Audio AZUR 340A
Sony TA-FE370
Marantz PM4001

Radio Jackie by
tony sayer
One of the better known pirate "poacher turned gamekeeper" stations!.
But have a look at the field marked "stuff", and see their article on
reception advice and DAB in particular. This puts the BBC to shame!.
Even better click onto listen now and see what they've done to improve
audio quality. Looks like they deserve and award for that!.....

recording converstaion by
harry
In the past whenever i wanted to record my family talking
I used an ordinary tape recorder. These don't seem available
now, apart from a few cheap ones probably low-quality.
What is the best way to record? Are there any portable stereos
which record directly to cd?
I've tried an MP3 player- the creative nano plus but it's not even as
good as old tape recorders used to be.

Hifidelio Wireless Music Server Review by
Simon Heather
I have had a Hifidelio 160Gb wireless music server for a week now and
thought I would write a brief review to help/inform any potential buyers.
First I should say that the price is the UK of £799 is too high and I would
recommend the dealer Stassen-HiFi based in Venlo in Holland who sells them
for EUR 839 (approx £575).
I upgraded the music server to the latest 2.1.8 firmware very easily...

Brief history of surround sound by
Serge Auckland
This is a long post, so those not interested can ignore it.
This brief history is not exhaustive, and covers mostly surround sound as
applied to records. There were separate developments for broadcasting, and
these have been mentioned in passing, but not covered in detail. I have also
not discussed Ambisonics in any detail.
