Pioneer PL-620 Turntable - Replacement Stylus/Cartridge/Turntable? by
Howard Haigh
I'm currently in a 'let's see what's in my old vinyl collection' mood and am
using my ageing Pioneer PL-620 direct drive turntable (presently behaving
itself with quartz lock). I suppose it's something of a budget turntable but
the replacement stylus (PN-3MC for the moving coil PC-3MC cartridge) seems
awfully expensive (£65 via Musonic). I can't be sure of the condition of the
existing stylus and...

Floor speakers? by
Andy Hewitt
I'm considering upgrading my old JPW Sonatas for some floor standers.
Seems a bit of a minefield really, so some advice would be appreciated.
My system is fronted by a Sony turntable, Sony DVD player (which I also
use for CDs, but I'm considering a dedicated CD player at some point),
Yamaha KX330 tape deck, and powered by a Yamaha 'Natural Sound' 60w x5
Surround Receiver.
I'm looking to budget...

Tech required by
Trevor Wilson
I require the services of a technician, who is familiar with high end
amplification. I have a client who lives in London, whose amplifier has
failed and I would like to refer him to a good tech who operates in/near
London. I am very familiar with the product and am happy to guide the tech
with fault finding and any short cuts for service. Ideally, the tech would
have internet access...

Anyone familiar with SAE Mark series? by
roke
I'm thinking of getting one of these power amps. Can find no reviews. Or
else I am looking at the Quad 405. Can anyone tell me what the Mark series
power amps are like? (I will be running it with SAE Mark IB pre-amp and Kef
Concerto speakers).
Thanks.

Just a bit of very general advice before I splash out the cash. Is it
possible to get decent hi fi sound from a av five speaker set up or

Searching for a DC motor Denon tape deck by
Martin
Hi guys
I hope this is the right place to post a question like this, you all
seem to be quite knowledgeable.
I've got a Denon DRM-700 tape deck. It looks like the capstan motor has
died on it. I've Googled for the model and can't find anything. I was
hoping one of you might be able to help.
The labels on it are DC12V MMU-5B3LNJ Japan and there is a logo on it

Arcam DV88 Pauses/Freezes on DVD Playback by
Andrew Virnuls
Hello!
I've got an Arcam DV88 that I've had since new, and recently it's started
pausing - anything between a fraction of a second and freezing completely -
on DVD playback. CD replay seems fine.
Some discs play fine, some occasionally pause for a fraction of a second and
carry on, and some freeze completely at certain points - and it's always at
the same point, which tends to suggest that...

Too late for that Poopie.
Perhaps you are oblivious to your how your snotty pronouncements about
gear you disapprove of are perceived by Normals. Would you like me to
explain the impression you make when you say "antique technology"?

External USB2.0 Drive Mp3 connected to a HiFi? by
[email protected]
HI,
I have a USB 2.0 external drive (2.5") having 80 GIG of Mp3. The
problem is that I still need to use my computer to listen the music. I
would like to be able to plug the USB drive directly on a HIFI, without
using the computer.
I will have to buy anyway a new HIFI, a new LCD TV 26", a new CD
player, etc. I am ready to buy some new piece of equipment.

Speaker switch by
Rob
I'm fiddling about trying to use 1 pair of speakers, with the option
to switch between power amps - one SS, one valve. This:
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=21299&doy=search
would seem to do the job, but I'm unclear on a couple of things:
1. What would be the consequence of operating the valve amp when the
switch (is there a switch?!) is connected to the SS amp? I'm going to...

ProAc Studio 100, 110 and Cyrus by
[email protected]
Dear all,
I'm looking for some new speakers for Cyrus 8VS amp and 8X CD player.
I've been happi;y looking through web sites but can't really fathom the
ProAc speakers.
There is a Studio 110 now as well as the tried and trusted 100. Why?
Why do they make two such similar speakers (vis a vis, size, frequency
response and price)? The web pages are

Advice requested: wireless microphone for use with laptop by
Mungo
Our local junior ice hockey club wants to announce various messages to
the gathering masses (all three of them at most games!).
I've already plumbed my old laptop in to the Public Address system so
we can play appropriate music at the game stoppages.
So now my idea is to get a wireless radio microphone of some reasonable
quality to feed in to the microphone input of the laptop and thence on
out...

Musical Fidelity voltage conversion by
turf
Hi All,
I have a Musical Fidelity A308 Integrated in America that I would like
to bring to Europe. I have heard that it is simply a matter of
changing a wire to a different slot to convert it to 230 volts. Can
anyone provide me with details of this?
Thanks

Non Reversible Speaker plugs by
Doug Duncan
Does anybody know where I might obtain a pair of the non reversible
speaker plugs which used to be used in sixties hifi?
I have an Armstrong 222 that I've pressed into service after the
Cambridge lost a channel. At the moment the speaker wire is poked into
the sockets in the back of the o/p transformers but this is not the
standard of installation we aim for.
Any help will be much...

Roksan Kandy Phono by
jrhslick
I purchased the integrated Kandy and Radius5 at the same time a year
ago from the dealer. For the past year it has been performing
wonderfully, but recently the phono section of the amp has started to
have some issues. (erraneous electrical noises). I have narrowed it to
the phono section as no other inputs display these symptoms. Sometimes
when switching on the amp from stand-by the phono...
