Technology @ Home Magazine - advert
The new magazine is now in the shops -- well, it's in quite a few of them.
Some W H Smiths have the mag on the shelves and some don't. Your friendly
local cornershop newsagent can order the mag for you, or you can subscribe
at

Front panel display on DIVX players by
[email protected]
Hello,
I'm looking for a DVD/DVIX player that can play MP3 files and present
the information of the tracks (filename or ID3 informations) on the
front panel display (without using TV) and that give possibilities of
navigation in the MP3 cd, change folders and tracks.
Thanks
Antonio

Is the market winding down SACD and DVD-A?? by
Andy Evans
Naxos is reportedly moving away from SACD and concentrating on plain
old vanilla CDs. Is this typical of the industry? How are the masters
normally recorded these days in the classical music world - 96/24 or
what? I cite the classical market as being 'quality sound' so it would
be interesting to know where all this is going in the short term (and
indeed the medium/long term).
We have some...

Sony SBM-1 or PCI soundcard for A/D conversion? by
Juergen Marquardt
Have to make some analog to wave conversions:
Should one use an external Sony SBM-1 A/D converter or the soundcards A/D
converter (AK4524VF) to make analog recordings in 16 bit at 44.1 kS?

Summertime rock'n'roll by
Andre Jute
The hills and the lanes call to me. The summer is here. With all that
fresh air I become so energized I build amps and speakers and actually
do some work. See you when the winter rolls around again. Ciao,
friends.

Pioneer PL20 Mk2 turntable, warbly sound problem - need advice by
[email protected]
Hello all,
I'm having a game with this deck. I have oiled it where it suggests, I
have given it a new belt, I have tightened down the mounting screws for
the motor and still the thing (only sometimes) gives off this sound
like a warped recording.
I can see the drive wheel through the holes in the platter wobbling.
But it only does it sometimes. I played one side of an album last
night, played...

Back In The Real World III by
Keith G
OK, this one's a bit different (apologies if the cut & paste goes awry):
--------------------------------------------
"Hi Keith,
I stumbled upon your website in attempts to find info on fixing my Garrard
DD-75. It still works really well, but the light for the pitch control
burned out. The weird thing is, if I shine a flashlight on the light bulb,
it will illuminate for approximately 10...

advert: Technology at Home magazine by
Bill Wright
This new UK magazine does not have a giant publishing house behind it. All
the money has come from private individuals who have actually risked a lot
in order to launch this independent publication.
The new magazine will be in the shops from midweek. I'm asking you all to
give it a fair chance. Most of the writers from 'Television' are on board,
but the new publication has a broader appeal....

R3 'pips' by
Jim Lesurf
Does anyone know if there is a time when R3 broadcasts regular 'time pips',
and if so, when this is? I can't recall hearing these on R3 for some time
now, and when I've checked in recent days they weren't broadcast at
noon/1/2pm...
I'm trying to accurately measure the time offset between FM/DAB. I've
managed this for R4, but the time offset for R3 is clearly different. :-/

Why moving coil by
Serge Auckland
My question is why Moving Coils should be thought to be better than moving
magnets. I can think of several reasons why they should be worse, lower
compliance and higher mass, but not why they should be better. Trackability
should be better on a MM, as should record wear due to lower tracking
weights.
The quality of the stylus may be better on an expensive cartridge, but in my
own case, I...

turntable info. Just have to say: I'm very, very impressed with the audio
components you have built. Wow! I love the speakers, and...
