Rogers Cadet III modifying pick up adapter for magnetic cartridge by
Tom
I have a Rogers Cadet III amplifier and have recently got hold of a
Thorens TD 160 turntable that I would like to try with it. The Cadet
only has a pick up adapter for a ceramic cartridge, I want to try and
modify it for use with a magnetic cartridge.
I have a copy of the circuit diagram for the control unit but it doesn't
include the pick up adapters.
I've taken a picture of the adapter in the...

Quad 303 capacitors by
Jim Lesurf
Having read the article in last month's 'Hi Fi News' about 'upgrades' for
the Quad 303 (and 33) I became curious about this. I've been using a 303
for a few days as one of my usual amps has an intermittent fault, and this
enhanced my interest. :-)
I visited the website of the company who offer the mods (net-audio) and I
must say I was pleased that they explain the changes quite clearly....

Indoor DAB Aerial by
Kieran
Hi,
At home I have an Arcam 10 DAB tuner and an external DAB aerial, so
everything is near enough perfect. However, I may need to rent a flat for
work purposes (ie too long a commute), and am thinking of buying a micro
system along the lines of a Pure Legato as below:
http://www.pure.com/Products/product.asp?Product=VL-60692
I am going to assume in advance that the 'T' indoor aerial...

There is only one DAC worth buying - the Benchmark DAC1. It is for all
practical purposes perfect, and will make the very best use of any
incoming data stream.

software to simulate tape control? by
tg
I'm doing some audio recording on my Windows XP PC and I want it to behave as though it's tape controlled ie: the recording will
only proceed when a specific volume is reached and the recording will pause if the volume drops below a certain level.
Is there any software that will do this?
I am using a Midiman Delta 44 sound card in my machine. I'd prefer recording software that can do this but if...

I would be interested to run a level-matched DBT between the Benchmark

Nowhere is this better illustrated than in the current thread "Horns
are bad", in which some apparently underprivileged audiophiles
pontificate weightily about public address horns and sound
reinforcement horns and mickey mouse high frequency horns to fill out
the top end of multicone boxes. This is a hi-fi...

What does specification mean? by
Gav
In the specifications of my AV Amp it says the following.
90 W + 90 W (8 ohms, 20 Hz - 20 kHz, 0.08 % THD)
125 W + 125 W (6 ohms, 1 kHz, 0.7 % THD)
What does the 1kHz bit mean? I'm assuming that it means the measurement has
been taken at 1kHz, is this correct?

LP to CDR transfer by
seamus
I've been transferring some old LPs to CDR via my PC using Audacity, the
set up I use works fine for me but I find it tiresome to split the wav for
each side of an LP into tracks. Does anyone know of a piece of software
(cheaper the better) which could be set to automatically create a split in
the wav file where a gap of say 2 seconds exist?

Why cheap Chinese amps are not the chopping block for high-end tube amps by

This is not quite true. I know one Japanese amp manufacturer who gets
excellent transformers out of China. He goes with a design and a

refuses to pay for the entire batch if the tiniest little thing is
wrong. The result is a superb...

Inca Katana by
JM
Hello.
I have been offered an ex-demo Inca Katana for £400.
I am very tempted, but this is a serious step up for me (current system
Cambridge Audio Azur 640 CD and Amp with Kef IQ5s).
I'm happy with this system (which is a recentish purchase) but plan to move
the cd and amp to a second room and use the Katana as the foundation for
something a bit more indulgent (perhaps the Naim Nait 5i amp...
