English is peace, let them learn English by
Andre Jute
Jesus, save me from newsgroup gurus spouting their ignorance.
That innocent abroad, West, wrote to Triode Dick (a benefactor of
DIYers):
Your web site is simply fantastic. Unfortunate for me, I do not read Dutch. Many Americans are talking about your site. Have you ever considered to have it repeated in English?
Yo, Westley, everything you need to know is on those excellent
circuits, and Dick...

Can someone recommend me a decent mini Hi Fi system of about £70 mark or less? by
Tristán White
Further to my earlier email about the Thomson Hi Fi, can anyone
recommend a good alternative? The design fault with some cheaper
models of Thomson that Arfa referred to doesn't sound like much fun.
As I said, the ESSENTIAL components a
* Possibility to plug in own speakers (or own separate speakers if
they're good)
* CD player

Opinions Please on Turntables by
[email protected]
I need some opinions here on two T/Ts I'm considering in the A$4000ish
(US$3000) bracket. I am starting to get back into vinyl and just want
a fairly mid to high end T/T to do the job.
I did have my heart set on the VPI Scoutmaster with a Signature 9 arm
but I have since had a look at the Rega P7 with the RB700 arm.
Now the difference between the two is.

[email protected]
I'm currently using a Arcam Delta 290 int and 290P. I'm contemplating
of getting another 290P for the purpose of monobloc. I'm wondering if
this is worth the money..... has anyone done it before and would like
to share his experience?
Thanks a million!

DAB TX info by
Jim Lesurf
I have managed to find a list of the TX powers and locations for the BBC
DAB SFN. However I haven't found similar data for the other DAB broadcasts.
Anyone know of a URL that gives this data?
Also, anyone know of a location which shows the service area maps (ideally
with some field level contours) for the UK DAB TXs?

And another one... by
Keith G
My second 300B Chinese eBay amp arrived today, a pretty little thing:
http://www.apah69.dsl.pipex.com/jaaudio300b/jaaudio300b.htm
and sounds great!! (They all do, or perhaps I'm losing it...)
Anyway, I hope it's got a better MTBSGTU* than the Bez:

HiFi News by
Oddjob
Hi, I was lucky enough to pick up hifi news from 1979-2005 the other day.
So, does anybody know of an index that would allow me to select a review of
a particular piece of equipment without looking through all the mags!
thx

Cambridge Audio A5 or AZUR 340A? by
[email protected]
Which of these would you buy?
There is only about £30 in it at Richer sounds.
The A5 is more powerful and without the extras such as remote control
and 2 speaker outs which arent that important to me but the Azur is (I
think) a more recent model.
Any good reviews of these available online?
What Hifi gave the A5 5/5 but havent reviewed the Azur340.
Cheers

Thomson Hi Fi... any good by
Tristán White
Hi - anyone know anything about Thomson CS86 mini Hi-Fi's? My Dad,
who lives in Spain, is looking to buy a cheap in price (but not cheap
in sound quality) hi fi that is good for listening to CDs, doing
tape-to-tape, and recording from the radio onto tape. He has a much
more professional Hi Fi separate system upstairs that he loves, but
this is something good but cheap to listen to music while...

FYI: Dynaudio 52SE by
Rob
Just bought a pair of these from Moorgate Accoustics
(http://www.hifi-plus.co.uk/about.html) in Sheffield for 650UKP -
apparently Dynaudio are off-loading them because of direct competition
with their current line.
Not exactly a bargain but I'm pretty chuffed :-)

Marc Baumann

however help for it:

independant volume control:
group 1: TV (no audio) and 5.1 surround...

Yamaha AX-500 Amp - speakers & cable by
Egremont
I have a 2nd hand Natural Sound Yamaha AX-500 amp, but no documentation. I
want to connect up speakers... all I know is that speakers must be at least
8 Ohms.
1) Setting aside listening quality issues, is it electrically safe to use
cheap/thin speaker cable, or bell wire, to a 2nd set of speakers off this
Amp?. This would be to a kitchen where ultra-top quality sound isn't really
necessary.

Crossover design questions by
sbring
The crossover shown at the following URL was used in the 1970s in a
three way, eight ohms system. There are some design details I would
like to know the probable explanation for. One is the treble part which
is fourth order. Why would one want to do it this way, when the other
two channels are second order? And when I look at the formulas
recommended for calculating fourth order networks, they...
