Arcam CD Player Dying... by
Kieran
Hi,
Switched my Arcam 8se CD player on today, and, upon pressing play button, I
get 90% hiss/crackling, and 10% music. Checked all the cables, switched
input from CD to Aux on amp, still the same. Tuner plays fine through amp,
so has to be the CD player. Left it for 30 minutes, turned it on again (to
demonstrate to wife!), and the ratio had reversed to 90% music, 10%
crackling. A few...

FA: Behringer SCMS / Jitter processor by
CP
Ends this Sunday evening. Pro audio unit, but removes SCMS copy
protection and reduces jittter for use with budget audiophile DAC's
such as Dacmagic, so useful for home systems as well.Click:

Looking for stage vocal mic in the UK by
Aaron Smith
Probably a dynamic for my self.
My voice is in the realms of Chris martin tom York and bono or though with
out bono's raw power.
My voice is softer than my band mate who seem to cut through better.
I am using an SM58 and am thinking about an AKG
I was an engineer for an outdoor summer gig with many bands. The Sennheiser
where used a lot but this one chap had an AKG not an expensive one. and...

Hitachi ax-m69 Hi-Fi: How can I adjust the Bass and Trebble??? by
hifiproblems
Hi,
I'm hoping that there might be someone who is a little better at
understanding instruction manuals than me! Have just brought a new
hitachi hi-fi (the ax-m69) and am having problems manually adjusting
the bass and trebble. The instruction manual says:
"Press the user button on the remote control, the "BASS" will display
on the VFD, then use the volume up/down buttons (VOL-/+) to...

Ceiling speaker recommendation by
Jerry L
We will shortly be converting our office/kitchen over to being 100% kitchen.
At the same time the ceiling mounted Bose Acoustimass 3 speakers will be
moving to the new study. The main reason for moving the speakers is that
there will no longer be room for the sub-woofer.
This means that I need to buy a pair of flush mounted celing speakers for
the kitchen, the maximum budget being £199 (for...

Audio Innovations silver speaker cable by
Glenn Richards
Just thought I'd share this with you...
Have just upgraded the cable in my second (AV) system from Gale XL105 to
Audio Innovations Silver Ultra Micro for the centre and HF and Ultra 100
for LF (Gale 4 and Centre 2). To put it bluntly, it's made a bloody
amazing difference!
A friend who was round at the time I switched the cables over said it
was like a veil had been lifted from over the...

Valve socket search? by
Keith G
I need a bunch of *dirt cheap* sockets for 300Bs (UX4?), say a coupla dozen
of them. (Not a trivial amount of money for good ones!) Anybody know the
best place(s) to try?
Right now I've got 18 no. 300Bs jammed into a shoebox (and leftovers) like a
wacky depiction of Chaucerian Pilgrims in a rickety little boat - they're
having fun but I'm having trouble sleeping....!! ;-)
I want to build a...

BBC's real thoughts on DAB by
harrogate2
If you want to know what the BBC really think about DAB quality go to
the BBC Radio4 web site (www.bbc.co.uk/radio4), navigate to the PM
program web site and listen to yesterday's (Friday 7th Oct) prog, the
letters section. The bit that matters starts at running time 49:59 and
the important one at 50:44. The prog should be available under 'Listen
Again' until today's prog starts at 17:00.

Ping Jim - Pink Gen...?? by
Keith G
Well, stuck within range of the front door bell waiting for an (unlikely
yet) delivery of an amp and possible delivery of some valves (18 x 300B, no
less!!), I finally got round to fitting the Visaton FR10 drivers that Jim
Read very kindly sent me to try in my Pinkies (Buschhorns):

Quad 303 age from serial number? by
John Smith
Hi,
Does anyone know how to assess the age of a Quad 303 from its serial number?
I want to know how old one is that has a serial number in the 70000 range. I
know that they made about 90000 (according to the book 'Quad: the closest
approach') but I don't know if the serial number was just a running number
or if they started each year at a certain point.
While I'm asking about Quad 303s, does...

Back to that speaker by
Dave xxxx
I posted this link
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v250/analogkid/hifif100.jpg
KeithG was correct the tweeter is the Seas Excel 'Crescendo' T29CF002
"The Big un" as Keith calles it is a Seas H1305 CA26RFX Woofer
Which means that speaker which is selling for 9k has no mid range

Suuu-miiii-kooo! by
Fleetie
So I got my turntable back into action this evening.
Got my new Sumiko BPS Evo-III on this evening and all hooked up.
It sounds "ok" but the tonearm looke like it's Concorde taking off. I need
another ring on the bottom of my tonearm mount. Never noticed that the last
2 times. Has the cartridge got "taller"? Doubt it.
I've had it sounding better than it does at the moment, though, I'm sure.
Oh...

Speakers on Laminate Floor by
alan ralph
Hi,
I have been using for some time the Ruark Prelude, floorstanding speakers,
which were standing on carpet, but spiked to the concrete floor. We have now
changed from carpet to laminate floor, and I would welcome your thoughts on
whether the speakers should be coupled or isolated from the floor ? From a
sound point of view the speakers seem a little bright, now the floor has
been changed,...

Erase before recording onto tape? by
Alex Coleman
Does it make any noticeable difference to erase a cassette tape
before recording onto it?
What about in the case of video cassette records where the recording
density is quite high?

Azur 640T DAB: signal dropping now fixed by
Robert
After nearly a year of waiting I have now had my two Azur 640T tuners
replaced with new ones with version 3.0 of the firmware. Cambridge
Audio announced on their website that the upgrade was available; see
"DAB problems" in the discussion forums on the CA website.
This upgrade from V2.0 to V3.0 has (it seems) completely cured the
problem where the unit used to lose DAB signal and 'lock out'.
I...

Cleaning up a dire tape... by
Les Hemmings
I have finally tracked down a cassette version of a long lost album now well
out of print.
But the sound quality is dire, truly awful. Quiet, variable, hissy, with
the odd clonk...
Is there some half decent freeware that could at least attempt to clean it
up? I could load it up on the pc as an mp3 and go from there..
Any ideas much appreciated!
