Upgrade Quad 303 or buy Quad 306? by
John Smith
Hi,
I'm currently driving my ESL57s with a 33/303 combination. I would like to
upgrade to a Quad 34 and wonder if I should then move to a 306 or upgrade
the 303. The ESL57s I have are 1974 vintage and were originally sold with a
33/303 setup. I believe the 303 is so designed it can't overdrive the ESL57s
but maybe I'm wrong?
The full spec NET Audio 303 upgrade costs around Ł200 and for that I...

Hi Everyone,
i have updated Enjoy the Music.com's Review Magazine as we are now doing
midmonth updates. Two new equipment reviews (Audio Note's Kit 1 300B
integrated amplifier and Marigo Labs' Signature 3-D Stabilizer Mat) have
been added to August's reviews of Artemis Labs' PH-1 phono stage, Raysonic's
SP-100 integrated amp, plus the Cain & Cain Company Abby loudspeaker and

Sugden C51/P51 by
compuserf
Hi all
My P51 just failed on one side, so I'll have to get it fixed or
replaced. Last time I had a problem with it (20+ years ago) I ran the
C51 from a power supply and used another power amp. The problem is, I
can't remember what voltage the C51 uses.
If anyone has any info I'd like to see it. I am also open to offers
for a replacement P51. Or from anyone who fixes them.

Joining wavs by
Gelf
I quite often record off the radio to CDRW using my Pioneer PDR609 CD
recorder. I split the recording up into 3 minute tracks using the
facility built into the recorder.
This is to make navigation of the CD easier, especially in the car.
It all works fine, but occasionally I want to save a piece of music
that spans two or three of the tracks.
Is there a program I can use to join the wav files...

Audio-CD copy-protection program? Reasonably priced? by
Ellie Bentley
I've been googling around for a program to protect audio CDs which I am
planning to make from possibly being copied (I would just prefer to
think that they can't be) and I haven't had much luck. I've found a
couple of freeware programs like CDLock but they won't protect audio
CDs, apparently because tracks on an audio CD are there as easily
distinguishable and copyable files. At the other end...

Sony VTX-D800U Freeview STB by
Dave Plowman (News)
I recently complained to Sony that this box required the volume altered
on my TV when swapping from NICAM to it on the same channel. This Freeview
box is about 4dB low compared to the previous Philips one I had, and also
low compared to others I've tried.
They swapped it for another - just the same - and sent it back to Japan
for investigation.
Got an e-mail saying it was within spec - OdDFS...

MP3... not actually all that bad! by
Glenn Richards
Ok, this one's going to get the purists turning purple, but here goes...
Have just plugged my now-retired Arcam Black Box 50 into the PC
(Creative MP3 Blaster USB external sound card set to digital only mode,
hence no resampling) and compared between MP3, CDs played straight
through the internal DAC of a Technics SL-PG390 and CDs played through
the BB50.
MP3 played through the Black Box...

I have been listening to a number of the Proms broadcasts from Radio 3,
through dialup/Real Player, etc. and/or BBC Radio Player. Results of
all of what I describe below seems to have been about the same through
both media.

Special sound setup for outdoors by
BobPit
High
I have a very difficult situation here.
I have a friend that has a bar outdoors, on the seashore. ight next to it
there are houses. After 12:00 at night he has to turn down the volume in
order not to anoy the neighbours. But then most of the customers will leave
because there is no more fun.
I have looked up and found that he can raise some insulating walls. But

Electrostatic Sound Systems by
Oddjob
Hi, I have this piece of equipment, but do not know what it is for.
It works on 120V, I assume it's for separate bass control with electrostatic
speakers.
Does anybody have any information about this product.

many thanks

OK, another 'Honky Tonk' comparison... by
Keith G
I'm expecting deliveries sometime today and therefore stuck within earshot
of the bloody doorbell on a lovely day like this, so here's another loopy
comparison....
This track ('normalised' mono MP3s) is very honky/horny to
counteract/compensate for (ie *hide*) the effects of open mic recording and
I like 'em both - one is my homebrew 2A3 amp on my homemade Pinkie speakers,
the other is the...
